A Little on the background of Geoff Shawcross
Geoff and Margaret Shawcross own Gazaro Andalusians, a stud, based in Rake Hampshire and established over 25yrs ago when Geoff, a veterinary surgeon retired from general practice. His veterinary life revolved around small animal pets but his hobby and passion has always involved horses.
After retirement he developed a keen interest in the training of horses, the way they react, understand and respond to different teaching/training methods. He was very fortunate in knowing, and having over 20yrs of weekly lessons with Barry Marshall - (International Dressage Judge, FEI Committee member, and Chef d’Equipe for the Barcelona Olympic Games – Barry was also on the FEI Committee that found a young rider ‘Carl Hester’) - What started as a teacher/pupil relationship developed into a firm friendship with many an hour over lunch bouncing around different ideas on training and teaching.
This resulted in Geoff having a slightly different approach to the usual method of teaching. He concentrates on teaching the rider and horse as a unit. He teaches the rider so they can then teach their horse and together develop a strong partnership. He has patience in bucket-loads and encourages riders to ask questions, to think logically, and yes, he also has a good sense of humour.
