Yesterday, a lovely guest couldn’t make their early evening appointment and asked if they could donate it to a rescue instead. Of course, I was happy to help.

So today’s spotlight is on Street Hearts BG dog rescue.

Lisa from Helping Hounds Dog Training Academy rescued three of her four dogs from them and now volunteers as a behaviourist for them.

Tia (small black girl) was found at 6 weeks old in a box by a busy road, Doris was found at 6 weeks old in torrential rain inside a storm drain and Roxy the Labrador was relinquished… because she was digging. 🤦🏻‍♀️

They spent a lovely hour sniffing, hunting and exploring in the long grass and had the best time.

Thank you so much to the kind guest who donated their appointment. What a lovely way to turn a cancellation into something wonderful for rescue dogs. 🥰🐾

There were three foster dogs with Rochdale Dog Rescue due on the field this week courtesy of donated appointments. But there’s been a delay. Between torrential rain for the greyhounds Bill & Tex yesterday and a post-neutering Waffle being prescribed the dreaded rest today, the trips haven’t quite gone to plan.

But don’t worry, all donated sessions will still be used as soon as any rescue dogs are safely able to enjoy them.

Thank you for helping give so many rescue dogs a safe space to run, sniff and just be dogs.

Fabulous blind 17 year old golden oldie Molly was out on the field today. But thankfully, managed to avoid the rain.

All of this is thanks to a generous anonymous donation, which has given Molly the chance to enjoy her days in long-term foster with Rochdale Dog Rescue.

Her fosterer told me:

“We managed to avoid the rain this morning, but Molly was still very happy to roll around in the cool, wet grass before exploring the tunnel, which must have smelt amazing judging by the number of times she went in there!”

Thanks to another generous donation from anon Finlay in long term foster with Rochdale Dog Rescue was on the field this morning first thing.

His fosterer told me:

“Finlay is glad of the drop in temperature today so he can run around safely to burn off his Border Collie energy. He particularly enjoyed the scented long grass this morning whether he was running through it or hiding in it. With Finlay being deaf and having no sense of danger, a dog like him could never freely explore the moors in a way other dogs can. So this grassy area is such a wonderful welcome addition to the field and I’m so grateful that this has been thought of - along with all the additional enrichment experiences.”

Lucky Waffle (the gorgeous beige Cockapoo) is currently in foster care with the fabulous Tracy Flowers via Rochdale Dog Rescue.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of The Dog Cabin, Doggy Day Care, Waffle has been able to get out on the field twice this week, once on Monday and again today. A huge thank you for the donations.

Tracy told me:

“What a difference a weekend makes! Waffle came to the field last Friday to be introduced to his new foster fam in neutral territory & look at him now as part of the packs. Waffle jumped confidently out of the van both times as he recognised the field & was super happy to run with all his new friends. Thank you for letting Waffle come to play, it is definitely helping build his confidence! Xx”

Waffle does have interest, but these sessions are so valuable in helping Tracy understand his personality and what he’ll need from his forever family. It’s wonderful to see his confidence growing already. 🐾

This morning a regular guest contacted me to say they couldn’t make their appointment this afternoon. And asked if I could see if a rescue dog could make use of it.

Here’s Bobby. A 14 year old distinguished gentleman who was adopted via Rochdale Dog Rescue. Due to his shall we say, adventurous nature, he can’t safely go off lead.

But this afternoon he had his own private sniffari, off lead, across every inch of the field and had a ball.

A surprise extra field visit happened at 8am this morning for 17 year old long-term Rochdale Dog Rescue foster Molly.

A lovely client recently got in touch to say they sadly couldn’t make their appointment because their dog had to have surgery (two full hip ops😢). Rather than let it go to waste, they very kindly asked if they could gift it to a rescue dog. So that’s exactly what I did.

Molly’s foster said, “Something smells very nice in this grass this morning! Thank you so much for the donation”

And despite being blind, Molly was more than happy to let her nose do all the work.

EDIT grooming now sorted ❤️

Even though Waffle the cockapoo has been handed into the care of Rochdale Dog Rescue he’s still a very lucky boy. Firstly he’s in foster with the amazing Tracy Flowers. And secondly he went to the field straight after being collected by her this morning thanks to another kind field donation from anonymous.

Here’s what Tracy had to say:

We collected Waffle the cockapoo from the kennels this morning. We took him to the field for a run around and introduced him to the other dogs before bringing him home.

We already knew from the ladies at the kennels that he was a social boy so we let him out with one or two dogs initially, and he did very well. He’s a very sweet boy, and all the dogs seem to like him. We are sure he will make a lovely addition to someone's family. It’s early days, but our first impressions are very good. We’ll continue getting to know him over the weekend. We are hoping one of our groomer friends will offer to give him a buzz cut after seeing this update so that we can start again with his curly do as he is very woolly at the mo and Im a lady with limited time to attempt to get through that 😆

There was a time when Finlay (who is in long term foster with Rochdale Dog Rescue) wasn’t a fan of windy weather. He’s completely deaf and has neurological issues, so his world is quite different to most dogs and some situations can be overwhelming for him.

Fast forward to yesterday and he’s made massive progress. He was running into the wind and even managed a mid-air prance for his fosterer. This was another first.

As Finlay is deaf and can’t safely be off lead elsewhere, his field time gives him the freedom to properly stretch his legs and enjoy being a dog.

A huge thank you to anon who donated this session. It’s literally life changing for Finlay 🐾🥰

NEW STUFF 😃🐾

I did a bit of late night field maintenance last night. After my standard daily field check, I mowed some of the grass then stayed out in the dark setting up some new equipment.

The platform has been significantly extended and judging by the 7am appointment this morning, the changes have gone down very well.😃

Hope the dogs enjoy the improvements.
