🚫 Don’t make this mistake when your dog sees another dog.
The second you tighten the lead, pull back, or brace yourself, you’re often telling your dog there’s something to worry about.
Many reactive dogs aren’t reacting to the other dog alone—they’re reacting to the tension, pressure, and anticipation coming down the lead.
If every dog predicts lead pressure, frustration, or conflict, reactivity only gets stronger.
Instead of pulling your dog away the moment you see another dog, focus on creating space early, staying relaxed, and teaching your dog what you do want them to do.
The lead should be a communication tool, not a warning signal.
