Recall is easy… until a squirrel runs in front of your dog 🐿️😅

This is one of those moments that makes all the training worth it.

Iroh was a long way from me when he spotted the squirrel and instinct immediately kicked in. I called him once, and he turned straight around and sprinted back without hesitation.

That reliability doesn’t come from taking away his freedom or expecting him to stop being a dog. It comes from putting the work in before you need it.

Because the real test of a recall isn’t whether your dog comes back when nothing is happening.

It’s whether they can make the decision to come back when something else feels far more exciting.

And that’s exactly why I can give him so much freedom. ❤️

Ever watched your dog throw themselves onto a completely innocent patch of grass and wondered what on earth they’ve found? 😂

Nothing you can see. Nothing you can smell. Nothing left on their coat afterwards.

But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing there.

A dog’s sense of smell is vastly more sensitive than ours, so what seems like an ordinary patch of grass to us could be full of interesting scent information to them.

Scent may be one reason dogs roll, but sometimes it’s much simpler: scratching, stretching, excitement, or just because it feels good.

And Jack Russells? Somehow they manage to make rolling on the ground look like a full-contact sport. 😂

Sometimes they find fox poo. Sometimes they find an invisible masterpiece. Either way, they’re committed.

This brave girl deserves her own post 🥹🤎

When Frankie first came to me just a few weeks ago, she was frightened of everything around her, especially people, and would often react simply to make them stay as far away as possible.

Fast forward a few weeks and just three lessons, alongside some amazing dedication and consistency from her parents, and today Frankie walked through Leominster town around people and dogs without a single reaction.

We even finished the session sitting down for a coffee together, with Frankie calmly watching the world go by. 🥹

For her parents, this is something they could only dream of a few weeks ago. Being able to take Frankie out, enjoy places together and, hopefully, even take her on holiday with them one day.

That dream is starting to look very real.

I couldn’t be prouder of Frankie or her parents. There’s still more work to do, but just look how far this girl has already come.

Well done, Frankie! 🐾

This week has been one of those weeks that reminds me exactly why I love what I do ❤️

A lovely girl staying calm through a situation they once wouldn’t have been able to cope with.

A star little terrier placing fourth in an obedience competition and making her owner incredibly proud.

Puppies and their families completing their classes with stronger skills, clearer communication and exciting plans for what comes next.

Success looks different for every dog. Sometimes it’s a rosette, sometimes it’s calmly handling the unexpected, and sometimes it’s simply seeing how far you’ve come together.

Receiving messages like these genuinely makes me so happy. I may guide the training, but it’s the owners who keep showing up, putting in the work and helping their dogs become the very best versions of themselves.

What a wonderful week for the Clear Minds family. I’m so proud of every single one of you ❤️
