🦎 NEW LEOPARD GECKOS NOW IN STORE! 🦎
Looking for a fascinating little reptile to add to your collection? We’ve got some absolutely stunning new leopard geckos here in store! 🧡
Here’s a little bit about these brilliant little lizards!
Leopard geckos (Eublepharis macularius) originate from Afghanistan, Pakistan, north-western India, and parts of Iran and Nepal. In the wild, they inhabit arid and semi-arid environments, including rocky grasslands, scrublands and dry, mountainous areas.
Rather than spending all day basking in the open desert sun, leopard geckos are largely crepuscular, meaning they’re most active around dawn and dusk. They spend much of the hotter part of the day sheltering beneath rocks, inside crevices and in burrows, where temperatures and humidity are more stable.
Their natural habitats can experience significant temperature changes between day and night, so having a suitable temperature gradient in captivity is essential. Their rocky surroundings also provide plenty of natural hiding places, which is why multiple hides and environmental enrichment are so important in their enclosure!
Leopard geckos are generally docile, curious and relatively easy to handle once they’ve settled into their new home. They’re popular with both beginner and experienced keepers, provided their specific care requirements are met.
These little hunters are insectivores, meaning they eat insects rather than fruit or vegetables. Their diet can include locusts, dubia roaches and mealworms, alongside appropriate calcium and vitamin supplementation.
They need a suitable temperature gradient, secure hides, fresh water, appropriate UVB lighting and a well-designed enclosure with plenty of enrichment. A moist hide is also important to help them shed their skin successfully.
Unlike many gecko species, leopard geckos have movable eyelids, allowing them to close their eyes and even blink! They also store fat in their chunky tails, which act as an energy reserve. Basically, built-in emergency snack storage! 😂
We only have 3 available and I don’t think they’ll stick around long!
