Poppy was an absolute angel for her spay this week 🩷✨

She was so brave from start to finish and spent her recovery cuddled up with her favourite bunny 🐰🥹

Now it’s time for lots of rest, treats, and TLC while she heals. We hope you feel better soon, sweet girl 💕

Meet Roo 🐾✨

This little superstar came in for his castrate yesterday and completely stole the show from the moment he arrived! From his demand of cuddles to his endless curiosity, Roo had everyone wrapped around his little paws in seconds 🧡

He was such a brave boy throughout the whole day and recovered like an absolute champ. We’re pretty sure he left with a few extra admirers too… it’s impossible not to fall in love with that face! 🥹

☀️🐶 HOT WEATHER WARNING 🐶☀️

Please think twice before taking your dog out in the heat. If the pavement feels too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Use temperature guides like this as a rough idea, but ALWAYS make your decision based on your individual dog’s:
🐾 Breed
🐾 Age
🐾 Weight
🐾 Health conditions
🐾 Fitness level

Flat-faced breeds, older dogs, puppies, overweight dogs and thick-coated breeds are especially at risk of heatstroke.

Dogs do not die from missing a walk.Dogs DO die from heatstroke. 💔

Heatstroke can happen frighteningly fast and can become fatal even with emergency treatment. Signs include:
⚠️ Excessive panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Weakness or collapse
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Bright red gums
⚠️ Confusion or wobbliness

On hot days, swap walks for:
💧 Early morning or late evening toilet breaks
💧 Garden enrichment and sniff games
💧 Frozen treats and lick mats
💧 Plenty of shade and fresh water

Please help keep our furry friends safe this summer☀️

🌸 Sweet Summer 🌸

A huge well done to beautiful Summer the bunny who came in to be spayed this week. She was such a brave little soldier throughout her procedure and recovery, and completely stole our hearts 🐰💕

Spaying rabbits has so many important health and behavioural benefits, including:✨ Preventing uterine cancer, which is extremely common in unspayed female rabbits✨ Reducing the risk of reproductive infections and disease✨ Helping to prevent phantom pregnancies✨ Reducing hormonal behaviours such as aggression or territorial behaviour✨ Allowing safer bonding with other rabbits

Summer did amazingly well and is now recovering with lots of love, cuddles, and well-deserved treats 💖

🐾 Extra large patient alert 🐾

It’s not every day we have a “horse” come into the clinic… although this time it was actually beautiful Naia the Great Dane 😆💙

Naia came in to see our vet Paul for a heart scan and definitely turned a few heads when she walked through the door. Despite her giant size, she was the gentlest soul imaginable and was incredibly well behaved throughout her visit. She was a credit to her owners! We think some of the team were secretly hoping to take her home!

Heart scans are an important way for vets to assess how the heart is functioning and can help investigate murmurs or other cardiac concerns.

Naia was an absolute superstar from start to finish and proof that giant dogs really are just oversized lap dogs 🐶✨

🦌 Little deer Stanley 🦌

Stanley came in to see us after an adventurous run through the woods ended with him needing a little stitch up 🐾 His owners say he bounces around like a little deer, and this time his speedy woodland adventures resulted in an injury that thankfully they spotted quickly and brought him straight in for treatment.

He was an absolute star throughout his visit and took it all in his stride with plenty of tail wags and bravery 💙

It’s always important to get cuts and wounds checked as soon as possible, especially if they are deep, bleeding, or in areas that can easily become contaminated. Prompt treatment can help reduce the risk of infection and aid healing.

We hope Stanley is back to bouncing around the woods again very soon 🌳✨

✨ Brave girl Boo ✨

Beautiful Boo came in to see us for her spay procedure and was an absolute superstar from start to finish 🐾💖 She was so brave and took everything in her stride, winning over all of the team with her sweet nature and cuddles.

Spaying has many important benefits for our pets, including preventing unwanted pregnancies, reducing the risk of mammary tumours later in life, and completely preventing life-threatening womb infections such as pyometra.

We’re so proud of Boo and wish her a smooth recovery full of treats, rest, and lots of love at home 🩷

This post is shared to help raise awareness of this serious condition.

Sweet Coco came to see us as she just wasn’t herself and had gone off her food — something her owners knew wasn’t right. After being admitted for hospitalisation and further investigation, a scan confirmed she had a pyometra, a serious and life-threatening infection of the uterus.

Coco required emergency surgery to remove her infected uterus (a procedure called a spay), and we’re pleased to say she did very well and is now on the road to recovery 💕

🐾 What is pyometra (pyo)?
Pyometra is a severe infection of the uterus that typically occurs in unspayed female dogs and cats, often a few weeks after a season. The uterus fills with pus, and toxins can enter the bloodstream, making pets extremely unwell.

⚠️ Why is it so dangerous?
Without urgent treatment, pyometra can lead to:
• Sepsis (blood poisoning)
• Organ failure
• Rupture of the uterus
Sadly, it can be fatal if left untreated

🐶 Signs to watch for:
• Lethargy or “not themselves”
• Loss of appetite
• Increased thirst
• Vomiting
• Vaginal discharge (not always present!)

💡 Prevention is key
The best way to prevent pyometra is by spaying your pet. Not only does this eliminate the risk of pyometra, but it also helps prevent other reproductive diseases.

Coco’s story is a reminder of how quickly things can change. If your pet isn’t quite right, trust your instincts and get them checked. Early intervention can save lives🧡

🐾 Biscuit’s Big Day Out! 🐾

Say hello to Biscuit! This gorgeous little boy who came in to see us for his castration, microchipping, and a short back and sides… (okay, okay… just a tidy up really 😜✂️).

He completely stole all of our hearts and made himself very comfortable having cuddles in our new VCA Libby’s arms💛

✨ Why is castration important in cats?
Castration doesn’t just prevent unwanted litters – it also has some great health and behavioural benefits:
✔ Helps reduce roaming (and the risk of accidents)
✔ Can lower the chance of fighting and related injuries
✔ Reduces spraying and marking behaviours

📍 Why microchipping matters
Microchipping is a simple and quick procedure that gives your pet a permanent form of identification. If they ever go missing, it massively increases the chances of being reunited with you.

📢 UK Law Update:
It is now a legal requirement for all pet cats in England to be microchipped from 20 weeks of age. Owners can face a fine of up to £500 if their cat isn’t chipped and registered with up-to-date details.

Biscuit was an absolute superstar for all of his procedures and went home feeling a little lighter, a little tidier, and fully set up for a safe and happy future 🐱✨

Throughout May, we celebrate the incredible work of Registered Veterinary Nurses (RVNs) and Student Veterinary Nurses (SVNs) who work tirelessly behind the scenes to care for your pets 🐾

Led each year by the British Veterinary Nursing Association, VNAM has been running for over 20 years and helps raise awareness of the vital role veterinary nurses play in animal health, welfare, and public health. In 2026, the theme is Compassion and Empathy ❤️

From monitoring anaesthetics and assisting in surgery, to inpatient care, nurse clinics, client support, and giving endless cuddles. Veterinary nurses are at the heart of every practice! 💕

Veterinary nurses do so much more than people realise, and this month is all about shining a light on these unsung heroes 🌟
