🐾 BLACK CAT FOUND – LEIGHTON BUZZARD 🐾

We have had a male black cat brought into the practice after being found on Briggington Way, Leighton Buzzard.

The cat is microchipped, however, the microchip is currently registered to the breeder, so we have been unable to contact the current owner.

🌾💛 Eevee vs. The Dreaded Grass Seeds! 💛🌾

Sweet Eevee came to see us after her owners noticed something just wasn’t right. Thankfully, they acted quickly, and after a thorough examination, we found not one… but TWO grass seeds hiding deep inside her ear! 😣

Grass seeds are something we’re seeing far too often at this time of year. Although they may look harmless, they can work their way into ears, paws, eyes, noses, and even under the skin, causing pain, infection, and sometimes requiring surgery if left unnoticed.

Luckily for Eevee, her owners spotted the signs early, and she was soon feeling much more comfortable after her unwanted hitchhikers were removed. 💕

🐾 After every walk, it’s a great habit to check your pets for grass seeds. Pay particular attention to:
• 👂 Ears (especially if they suddenly start shaking their head or holding an ear down)
• 🐾 Between the toes and around the paws
• 👁️ Around the eyes
• 👃 Around the nose (watch for repeated sneezing)
• 🧥 Armpits, groin, and anywhere with longer fur where seeds can easily become trapped

If your pet starts excessively licking a paw, shaking their head, squinting, sneezing repeatedly, or seems uncomfortable after a walk, don’t ignore it—give us a call as soon as possible. The sooner grass seeds are found, the easier they are to remove.

Well done to Eevee’s vigilant owners for catching the problem so quickly, and we hope she’s back to enjoying her adventures—just without any grassy souvenirs! 💛🐶

🎃✨ Precious Pumpkin! ✨🎃

This handsome little chap came in to see us for his castration this week, and he was an absolute angel from start to finish. 💛

Pumpkin had all of our nurses laughing with his cheeky antics and larger-than-life personality. He certainly kept us entertained and made himself right at home, stealing plenty of hearts (and a few extra cuddles!) along the way. 🥹🐾

🌡️ A gentle reminder as the temperatures rise… 🐾

Please think twice before taking your dog out for a walk in this heat.

Every dog is different, and factors such as breed, age, health, fitness, and the temperature all play a part. Use your best judgement and don’t feel pressured to stick to your usual routine.

💛 Remember: no dog has ever died from missing a walk, but dogs can and do suffer from heatstroke.

If your dog still needs some enrichment, try swapping their walk for some indoor games, training sessions, puzzle feeders, or a frozen treat instead.

💛 Naiva’s Story 💛

This beautiful girl, Naiva, had been feeling very poorly over the past few days. She had gone off her food completely and was understandably worrying her family.

Initial X-rays did not give us a clear answer, so the decision was made to repeat her ultrasound scan. This revealed pockets of fluid within her abdomen, raising concerns that something more serious was going on. In the meantime, Naiva was admitted to hospital and placed on intravenous fluids and medication to help support her while we investigated the cause of her illness.

Given the ultrasound findings, Naiva was taken to surgery for an exploratory laparotomy. During the procedure, the vet discovered the culprit… a foreign piece of rubbery material lodged within her small intestines. After speaking with her owner, it became clear that Naiva is a keen chewer and has a habit of eating toys.

Foreign body ingestion can quickly become very serious, often leading to intestinal obstruction, infection, and significant discomfort. Prompt investigation and treatment are often key to achieving a positive outcome.

The best part of this story? Just one hour after surgery, Naiva’s appetite had returned and she was already asking for food after not wanting to eat for several days! 🥰 It’s always wonderful to see such a dramatic improvement once the cause of the problem has been removed.

We’re delighted to see this brave girl feeling much more like herself again and wish her a smooth and speedy recovery. ❤️🐾

If your dog is a known toy chewer, it’s important to supervise playtime and seek veterinary advice promptly if they stop eating, become lethargic, vomit, or seem unwell, as these can be signs of an intestinal blockage. Thankfully her owners were vigilant and noticed she wasn’t well so bought her into us for help🐶
