❤️ A Happy Ever After for Salt ❤️
Do you remember Salt, who was looking for his forever home? We are absolutely delighted to share that he has found it... and what a life he is living! 🥰
Now known as Walt, he has landed with the most wonderful couple who are embracing everything life has to offer with him. From hoopers and gundog training, to search and rescue, campervan adventures and endless sniffaris, this lucky boy is making the most of every single day. He even has exciting new adventures planned this summer, including mantrailing, scent work and exploring the Lake District.
As if that wasn't enough, Walt has also started a very special new role as a School Therapy Dog at the specialist school where one of his new guardians works. We couldn't be prouder of him.
Before finding his forever home, Walt spent time on a prison dog training programme, where he helped the men develop their dog training and handling skills. We genuinely believe that experience has played a part in helping him settle so confidently into his new life. The patience, consistency and care shown to him throughout the programme was clear to see. It was also heart warming to see the shape that rehabilitation took for the men, and the distinct positive changes in them because of the dogs. A huge credit goes to all of those who took part in the programme. The difference they make to these dogs is remarkable, and Walt's success story is another wonderful example of that.
I am so grateful to Walts new family, they have been so amazing at doing everything they can to help him settle in. His new family shared this beautiful update with us:
"Salt — now known as Walt — has settled beautifully into our lifestyle. He enjoys an active social life and all of his adoring fans. We’re having great fun exploring new activities to see what floats Walt’s boat. At the moment, he loves the steadiness of gundog training, the speed and excitement of hoopers, and the feeling of wind in his hair during search and rescue. He’s also taken to campervan life and relishes every opportunity to go on a sniffari.
He has some new experiences lined up for the summer holidays, including mantrailing, scent work, and long walks in the Lake District. Walt has also gained employment with me at the specialist school where I work, proudly serving as the School Therapy Dog. The headteacher interviewed him last week, and he is now beginning his phased introduction to school life.
The school motto is “Be your best self”, and Walt truly is being the best version of himself — living for the day and bringing joy wherever he goes. He makes us smile every single day, and we are so grateful for Vikki’s trust in us and her amazing support.”
Thank you to everyone who has been part of Walt's journey—from those who cared for and trained him on the prison programme, to his incredible new family who have given him the life he deserves. He really is one very lucky boy, and we can't wait to follow his adventures for many years to come!
If there's such a thing as coming back as a dog... I'd definitely be putting my application in to live with this family! 😂🐾
