When a pet emergency happens, every second counts🩺

Join us for our Pet First Aid & Wellbeing Workshop, led by our Head Veterinary Nurse, Amie🩷

In this practical, hands-on session you’ll learn how to:
- Recognise when a pet is in distress
- Carry out CPR and emergency response techniques
- Know when to monitor and when to contact a vet
- Support your pet’s everyday health and wellbeing

You’ll also take part in demonstrations including CPR and basic bandaging, helping you build confidence to act calmly in an emergency🐾

We’re a little late to the party with this introductions… because we’ve been busy celebrating our birthday🎉

Many of you will have already seen Jo around the practice over the last month or so. We’re so pleased to officially introduce her and have her as part of our team👩‍⚕️

When Jo’s not caring for our patients, she’s kept busy by her two children and two rescue cats. She enjoys cooking, playing the piano and spending time with friends and family🩷

As temperatures rise this weekend, it's important to take a few extra precautions to help keep them safe and prevent heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke☀️

Here are some simple ways to help your pet stay cool:

🐾 Ensure fresh, cool water is available at all times
🐾 Provide access to shade and cool indoor areas throughout the day
🐾 Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening and avoid strenuous exercise
🐾 Check pavements before walks – if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws
🐾 Offer cooling mats, damp towels or pet-safe frozen treats
🐾 Never leave pets in cars, even for a few minutes
🐾 Keep grooming up to date to help remove excess fur and improve air circulation through the coat
🐾 Consider extra care for flat-faced breeds, older pets, overweight pets and those with underlying health conditions

⚠️ Signs of heatstroke can include: excessive panting, difficulty breathing, drooling, weakness, vomiting, confusion, collapse or seizures⚠️

If you are concerned that your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, and seek veterinary advice immediately.
