Look at the stars, look how they shine for you πŸ’›
Today is for you, our dogs in yellow.

The day is here and Spring has sprung
This day is for you our wonderful friends.
A day where you can celebrated from a distance, just the way you like it.
A day where we tell the world about how special you are and help others to understand your wonder.
A day where the stars shine bright yet silent, for we know how much you hate sudden noises.
A day where we can appreciate beauty in the still, for movement can make you wary.
A day where we just be and enjoy your presence.
A day where nobody will come anywhere near you, unless you want them to.
Happy day

WE LOVE YOU πŸ’›

🌿 Did you ever smell something when you were younger and just could not stand the smell? I know I did. Mine was Yarrow essential oil.
But have you ever gone back to that smell later in life and thought "that's actually not that bad".

This is The Sensory Modulation Theory (SMT)πŸ”¬. I know it sounds like something Sheldon Cooper would come out with in The Big Bang Theory, but it is a real theory.

The SMT is based on the idea that the plant compound (taste/smell) can change, depending on the health of the participant πŸ€’ For example - if an animal, or indeed yourself, have an infection, your body will perceive the smell/taste of antibacterial plants compounds to be more pleasing at that time. However if the animal, or you, are perfectly healthy, these compounds may be too harsh and will not be pleasing or perceived as neutral.

But, if our animal has a stomach upset, how is smelling an essential oil like peppermint or ginger going to get to the stomach.
The olfactory system is the answer.

🌿 Plant remedies, whether they're for humans or animals, have been used for thousands of years, and is still practised in many cultures throughout the world 🌍

πŸ’ Animals in the wild actively seek plants to heal many ailments. for example Chimpanzees swill the leaves of Aspilia plant around their mouths to release toxins to kill parasitic worms. This is a practise that has been passed down from chimp-generation to chimp-generation. Not something us humans have taught them to do.

πŸ• Our domesticated pets, dogs, cats etc. still have this innate ability to self medicate when they don't feel at their best.

It is always a beautiful thing to see rescue centres using aromatics to help their guests (I say guests in the hope every one of them finds a forever home) ❀️❀️

On ITV’ β€˜For the love of dogs’ tonight, Paul O’Grady offered violet leaf to a very anxious rescue dog at Battersea.

Excited to see zoopharmacognosy and essential oils get recognition as a way to help our dogs relax, self-medicate and self-heal 😊
