World Arthritis Day🐾

Arthritis is a progressive condition and although it is not curable, there are several ways to improve your pets comfort and help them to lead a full and active life.

Symptoms such as stiffness, limping, struggling to jump and reluctance to walk can indicate underlying osteoarthritis- a painful condition caused by degeneration and inflammation of the joints🦴

Please make an appointment if you are concerned about you pet.

You didn't know you needed

- a fun outdoor course
- with trips to real life spaces
- a trainer in your back pocket
- community of puppy parents who get it
- a beautiful bond built through play, exploring and learning together
- confidence to know how to deal with adolescence

Our community tells us often that their favourite thing about training with us is exactly that - the community.

Opportunities to belong.
Far more than just a 6 week course and goodbye.

We'll be a part of raising your dog for as long as you want to continue to learn and grow together.

To become a member of our community, and get started in building those relationships, head to

🔴 AN EXPERIENCED PUPPY TRAINER'S TOP 3 GOALS 🔴

SAVE for later...

Puppy Club is a safe space for puppies to grow, learn and play at their own pace.

Yes, we teach loose lead walking and leave it.

But it's far from what anyone's priority should be when raising a puppy.

If I could give you my main 3 goals for you to aim for in your puppy's first 6 months of life:

🔴 1. Confidence around people

🔴 2. Relaxed and happy in the presence of dogs

🔴 3. A recall that is successful in familiar environments under low distraction

There are lots of other awesome things to teach and learn. But make these your priority for the puppy phase and the rest can follow 🙏

How do we achieve it?

Puppy Club is designed to hit the above 3 goals.
We mix play, greetings, training, adventures, walking and chilling to create the perfect programme for you.

I definitely burped, and it took me AT LEAST 5 attempts to correctly say MULTI-DISCIPLINARY but...

If you're a parent of an adolescent dog OR a new dog trainer, OR you want to find out how messed up this industry can be then give it your time.

This is an insight to a very large portion of my work and clients, and expresses the truth about why I've developed a Youth Club for adolescent dogs.

I'm more than happy to hear stories from other dog trainers who feel they are progressively becoming spotters of medical issues, and from adolescent dog parents who may have just learnt something new 👏🙏

Watch this space as I reckon I'll be sharing deep digestible case studies of adolescent dogs and what we do to support them.

Hit FOLLOW if you want to see them on your feed 🙏🫶

This is a conversation I had this month with a client.

She used a ball chucker with her first dog from a young age because she thought it was the best way to burn off his energy.

He ended up with a shoulder injury... for the rest of his life.

She wouldn't even entertain buying one for her current dogs.
.............................................................................

🔁Flip the script:

I get it.
I did it with our family dog.
It was easy.
A long day at work and all you want to do is get out and not have to think.
You see a dog with energy and you see a toy that might use it.

Luckily for us Charlie was a broken retriever so he rarely brought the ball back for another throw - just plodded round and held it.
It saved his legs.
............................................................................

⁉️What's the issue?

1. Myth - endurance

That working line dog you're having relentlessly move is going to get fitter and fitter and require more exercise for you to have to "burn". You're making a rod for your own back

2. Pain - override

"But they can't hurt as they continue to chase it". Those two things can happen at the same time. Your dog's chase drive can easily override pain and it certainly overrides the capacity to assess risk. Number 1 way to break your dog long term

3. Wild - wind up

That Adolescent dog that struggles to be calm and balance their nervous system now associates being out in the world with wild energy. This activity will wind them up and up and up. Switch to calmer games

4. Daily - damage

Imagine going out and doing sprinting after a nap EVERY DAY. What damage is that going to cause your body when there's no warm up, no stretches, and no rest days. Treat them like an athlete

5. We all know we all chuck-it with one arm and nobody likes to be wonky 😉
................................................................................

🤔Verdict

There are a gazillion ways to burn energy without causing YOUR DOG pain and exhaustion, and YOU major vet bills early on in your dog's life.

We're ready for some ENERGY!

Our Collies Can workshop filled in less than 12 hours and we have a little room to welcome some Labrador Loons and Silly Spaniels to their relative workshops too!

We expect:
- noise
- bounce
- silliness
- play
- mischief

And some dogs too...🤪

We will be offering
- friendships
- group adventure
- breed specific games
- hunting/searching outlets
- recall
- focus
- FUN

So dogs... bring a hooman who is happy to do the above with you, be a bit of a loon themselves, and ask nicely for them to spend their hard-earned cash on you...

Who's it not for?
- Dogs who don't feel good in the presence of others
(feel free to message if you're unsure)

🌳The video:

Layla (blue eyed bombshell) and Luna (Romanian princess) are both rescues.
They're family dogs.

They walk with me once a week.

Luna is offlead.
Layla is on a 5m lead for her safety.

It was a tad warm so we're having a cool down in the wet grass.

I slowed to a stop and just hung out.
They chose to come over and lay down for a bit ❤️

I never ask them to lay down.

🤔WHAT WE SEE A LOT OF ON SOCIAL MEDIA:

- dogs on short leads surrounded by other dogs
- dogs put in long duration down stays for videos
- dogs exhibiting a stiff posture and hypervigilant and stressed body language
- anticipation
- a caption that says "calm dogs" when it is exactly the opposite

😏HOW TO ACHIEVE ACTUAL CALM:

- purchase a long line
- find somewhere naturally interesting to explore with your dog
- come to a slow stop every so often and take in the environment, allowing your dog to just be for a minute or 2. Move on
- do this at different points in your walk
- I prefer woodland and meadow
- breathe in some air mi ducks 🫶

It's quite simple really and your dog will start to ENJOY the chill time.

So will you.
Don't be tempted to say anything other than GOOD if they settle a little.

Calm is a state of mind, not a still position 🫶

I love these stories.
And heck have we heard some.

Give us your worsts here...

You'll be seeing AD-ASBO (Adolescent Dog - Anti Social Behaviour Order) confessions here over the next few months with the launch of Youth Club 😉

💜Save for later💜

Gemma and Timmy have recently started their Muzzle Training journey.

With muzzle training, we wamt to create a positive association with wearing the muzzle so the dog doesn't have stress added to the situations where they may need to wear one.

These 2 steps are a great way of giving control to Timmy and boost his confidence.

Step 1: sets of 4 reps offering the muzzle (open) and rewarding for any interaction (Timmy chose to put his nose in immediately)🔥

Step 2: jackpot feeding through the end🔥
