🍂🐴 The seasons are changing here at Padwick Farm! 🐴🍁

There’s definitely a chill in the air, the evenings are drawing in, and the beautiful autumn colours are beginning to take over the countryside. 🍂

As much as we love those long summer days, there’s something rather special about this time of year. ❤️

But while the horses are happily enjoying the last of the autumn grass, behind the scenes it’s all systems go as we prepare for winter! 🚜💪

🐴 Rugs are being sorted, checked and organised
🌾 Winter forage supplies are being stocked up
🏡 Barns and shelters are being prepared
🪵 Gateways, fencing and fields are getting their winter attention
🐑 And of course, all our four-legged residents are being carefully monitored as the seasons change.

There’s always a seemingly endless list of jobs on a farm, and just when you think you’re getting on top of it, another ten appear! 😂

But every job, big or small, is part of making sure our much-loved retirees have everything they need to enjoy a happy, healthy and comfortable winter.

Because retirement at Padwick Farm isn’t just about the sunshine and green grass of summer. It’s about care, comfort and attention to detail, 365 days a year. ❤️

And whilst we might occasionally miss those warm summer evenings, there’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing the barns full, the forage safely stored and the horses content as winter approaches. 🐴🍁

Friends, forage & freedom… whatever the season. ❤️

Some evenings just make you stop and take it all in… 🌅🤎

This sunset over the fields was absolutely breathtaking, and moments like this are such a lovely reminder of just how lucky we are to call this place home.

The rolling fields, the horses quietly grazing, the changing colours across the sky… it’s easy to get caught up in the jobs, the mud, the fencing, the haylage and the never-ending list of things to do — but then nature puts on a show like this and suddenly everything feels very still.

We never take this view for granted.

Padwick Farm isn’t just where we work, it’s our home, our life and a place we feel incredibly privileged to share with all the horses in our care. 🐴❤️

Sometimes the best moments are the simplest ones.

🌾 SECOND CUT IS DOWN! 🌾

Here we go again… the second cut grass for our haylage has been mown and is now lying out ready to do its thing before baling 🚜💚

So obviously there’s only one question to ask…

HOW MANY BALES DO YOU THINK WE’LL GET?! 👀😂

🍂 The seasons are definitely changing at Padwick Farm… 🍂

There’s a real autumn feel in the air now. The days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping and, after months of watching the horses happily wandering around without a care in the world, the rugs are starting to make an appearance again! 🐴🧥

Behind the scenes, we’re firmly in winter-preparation mode.

🌾 Straw deliveries are arriving
🏠 Barns are being cleaned, organised and prepped
🧥 Winter rugs are coming out
🐴 Horses are being checked and rugged as needed
🚜 Bedding, forage and supplies are being stocked up
🔨 And, as always, Ian seems to have an ever-growing list of things to mend, build and improve!

Winter on a farm takes a lot of preparation. We like to get ahead while we can, making sure everything is ready for those inevitable cold, wet, dark days when they arrive.

Of course, the horses remain blissfully unaware of all the work going on around them… as long as there’s grass, forage and friends, they’re quite happy! 😂❤️

There’s something lovely about this time of year though — the changing colours, misty mornings, cosy rugs and the feeling of getting everything tucked up and ready for another winter at Padwick Farm. 🍁

Autumn is officially here… and Operation Winter is well underway! 🐴🍂🚜

🐾 Exciting news from Padwick Farm… 🐾

Our lovely Georgie has been covered by the extremely handsome Fizz — an outside stud and, for us, something a little different… he’s blonde! 💛

Georgie is third generation Padwickfarm breeding, so this is a particularly special pairing for us and one we have chosen very carefully.

Both Georgie and Fizz are fully health tested, with health, temperament, type and suitability all considered when planning this litter.

If all goes to plan, we are hoping to welcome a beautiful litter of Working Cocker Spaniel puppies in early November. 🐶🍂

Our puppies are very much part of the family from day one and are raised with a huge amount of time, care and attention, so we are always very particular about the homes they go to.

We are now taking enquiries for this expected litter and are happy to speak to genuinely interested homes who would like to know more about Georgie, Fizz and our breeding programme.

Now comes the exciting wait… and we can’t wait to see what this pairing may produce. 👀🐾

🐴 THE GREAT PADWICK FARM RUG SORT IS COMPLETE! 🧥🙌

Jo and I have spent what feels like approximately 47 years sorting through the horses’ winter rugs… and I can confirm it has been an absolute hell of a job 😂

Mountains of rugs, endless labels, plenty of “whose on earth is THIS?!” and more lifting, folding and rearranging than either of us ever want to do again!

BUT… 🎉

They are finally ALL sorted, organised and stored away in our brand new rug room — another Ian creation, complete with a new staircase and proper lighting because apparently even horse rugs deserve luxury accommodation now 😂👏

And because clearly we’ve completely lost the plot, they’re even arranged alphabetically by horse. 🤓

Honestly, the level of satisfaction looking at this now is ridiculous.

For the first time ever, when someone says,
“Can you grab so-and-so’s turnout rug?”
…we might actually be able to find it in under half an hour! 🤣

Huge thanks to Jo for surviving the rug mountain with me, and to Ian for once again taking one of my “wouldn’t it be good if…” ideas and actually building it. ❤️

Well… we failed. 😂🐾🤎

The last boy puppy is officially going nowhere… because we’ve decided to keep him. 🥹

Meet Sylvester — aka Stallone 💪🏼🐶

With his dad being Arnie (yes, Schwarzenegger 🤣) it only seemed right that the next generation needed an equally tough name!

Sylvester is Ivy & Arnie’s boy, and we’re absolutely smitten with him already. He’ll be staying right here at Padwick Farm, growing up as part of the family and, all being well, will hopefully become our future stud dog when he’s older. 🤎

For now though, his main jobs are causing chaos, stealing hearts and learning everything he can from Mum, Dad… and the rest of the Padwick Farm gang. 😂

So it turns out the “last puppy available” was actually just waiting for us to realise he was already home. 🥹🐾
