Meet Alfie and Frankie- these two adorable sausage dog brothers! 🌭🐶🌭🐶

These little brothers have a rather special story — they’ve been adopted by two family members, so although they now have their own homes, they get to stay part of each other’s lives. 💕 How lovely is that?

They came in to see us recently and, as you can imagine, they certainly caught everyone’s attention! With those little legs, long bodies and big personalities, we think there’s going to be plenty of fun (and probably a little mischief!) ahead for these two.

We can’t wait to watch them grow up together! 🥰🐾

🐾 Patient of the Week – Welcome back, Ralph! 🐾

It was lovely to welcome Ralph back for his second vaccinations – and just look how much he’s grown in only four weeks! 😍

Ralph was such a big hit with all of us when he came in for his first vaccinations, and he’s certainly still got the cute factor! 💙

He’s still being carried in for now, but when he comes back for his 16-week parvovirus vaccination, we’re expecting to see him bounding through the doors! 🐶

We recommend the 16-week vaccination as mum’s antibodies can sometimes affect earlier vaccinations, so this extra dose helps make sure Ralph gets the best protection possible. 🛡️🐾

We can’t wait to see how much he’s grown by then! ❤️

🚧 Temporary Parking & Access Changes Temple House - 5th & 6th October 🚧

Dear clients,

Please be aware that essential drainage repair works will be taking place outside the practice on Monday 5th October (afternoon) and Tuesday 6th October.

✅ Beechwood Vets will remain fully open throughout, and pedestrian access to our main entrance will still be available via the footpath.

⚠️ During the works, the parking area at the side of the practice, including our disabled parking spaces, will be unavailable. We kindly ask clients to use the public car park opposite the practice and follow the footpath to the main entrance.

If you have mobility concerns or require assistance getting from your vehicle to the practice, please call us in advance and our team will do our best to help.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential repairs are completed.

The people who answer the phones, juggle the diary, calm worried owners, deal with the unexpected, keep us organised and somehow manage to do it all at once — thank you!

You’re often the first face our clients see and the last person they speak to, and you make such a difference to their experience. Behind the scenes, you keep the rest of us on our toes and help the whole practice run as smoothly as it possibly can.

It’s easy to overlook just how much you actually do, but we certainly don’t. Thank you for your patience, your humour, your hard work and for putting up with the rest of us! 😂

🐾 Laparoscopic Spay – A Less Invasive Option for Your Pet 🐾

Did you know that female dogs can be spayed using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery? 🩺✨

A lap spay involves making small incisions in the abdomen, allowing the ovaries to be removed using specialised equipment. Compared with a traditional spay, some of the potential benefits include:

✨ Smaller surgical incisions
✨ Less tissue handling and abdominal trauma
✨ Reduced post-operative discomfort
✨ Faster recovery and return to normal activity
✨ Reduced risk of wound complications

Every patient is different, and your vet will discuss whether laparoscopic or traditional spaying is the most appropriate option for your pet.

Meet Cheddar and Brie 🧀🧀

Meet these gorgeous dogs, Cheddar and Brie, two adorable litter mates who came in together for their speys. With names like these, it’s safe to say their owners have excellent taste… in dogs and cheese! 😋🧀

Both girls were in for their routine spey procedures, but Brie had a little something extra to take care of while she was with us. She also had an umbilical hernia repair at the same time.

An umbilical hernia is a small opening in the abdominal wall around the belly button that can allow tissue or fat to push through. Some small hernias can simply be monitored, but if surgery is already being performed, such as a spey, it can sometimes be convenient to repair the hernia during the same anaesthetic.

Cheddar and Brie have now recovered at home and are none the wiser for their little visit with us. 💕🐶

We think these two are pretty grate! 🧀😂

A huge congratulations to Kerry, who is celebrating an incredible 20 years at Beechwood Vets!

Kerry’s journey with us actually began much earlier, when she first joined Beechwood for work experience back in 1992. She went on to do further voluntary work with us before she started nursing training elsewhere to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) and then coming back to Beechwoods in 2006.

She qualified as an RVN in 1997 and went on to become a Clinical Coach, helping and supporting the next generation of student RVNs as they trained and qualified.

Today, Kerry primarily works within our Insurance Department, where she deals with and processes our insurance claims, using all that experience and knowledge to support both our clients and the wider team.

It’s fantastic to see how Kerry’s career has developed over the years, while remaining such an important part of Beechwoods.

Her career with us has touched the lives of countless colleagues, clients and pets along the way with her dedication, kindness and commitment to Beechwood.

Congratulations, Kerry and thank you for 20 years of hard work, dedication and commitment! 🥂🎉

Just take a look at this gorgeous kitty making themselves at home in our cat-only consult room at our Temple House, Seacroft practice! 💕

🐾Did you know that we are proud to be a member of International Cat Care Cat Friendly Clinic – Silver level? 🏆🐱

We understand that visiting the vets can be stressful for our feline friends, so we’ve put a few things in place to help make their visit as calm and comfortable as possible.

🐾 Separate cat waiting area – our dedicated Cat Parking area allows cats to be kept away from other patients while they wait.

🐾 Feliway-infused blankets – available in reception for you to place over your cat’s carrier. The familiar, calming pheromones can help your cat feel more secure during their visit and while waiting.

🐾 Cat-only consult room – a quiet space away from dogs, helping to reduce stress and anxiety.

🐾 Cat only ward when your cats are admitted with us for the day for a procedure

🐾 Cat-friendly handling – our team use cat-friendly approaches to help make examinations and treatments as positive and stress-free as possible.

Small changes can make a big difference to how your cat feels about coming to the vets. ❤️

🐾 Meet Bess 🐾

Take a look at Bess, this gorgeous Cocker Spaniel who recently came in to see us for her spey operation 🥰🐶

Her operation was carefully timed between her seasons, helping to ensure the procedure was carried out at the recommended time between seasons to help minimise complications. 🐾

As well as preventing unwanted pregnancies, there can be some important health benefits to speying, including helping to prevent potentially serious womb infections, such as pyometra. Speying may also reduce the risk of certain mammary tumours.

She was such a lovely patient and was soon ready to head home for some well-deserved rest, cuddles and TLC! ❤️🐾

We hope she enjoyed her recovery, being spoilt with lots of extra fuss! 🥰

🐾 Meet Ralph🐾

Meet this adorable Rottweiler puppy who came in to see us recently! 😍🐶

Those big paws are already giving us a clue that this little cutie is going to grow into a very big dog! 🐾

He’ll be back in 4 weeks for his second vaccinations, and we can’t wait to see how much he has grown by then! Something tells us those paws might be even bigger and we may even struggle for a puppy cuddle! 🥰

Once he has completed his vaccination course, he’ll need to wait another 2 weeks before heading out on his very first walks. We’re sure he’ll be ready to explore the big wide world by then! 🌍🐾
