When people think about dog socialisation, they often picture dogs playing together.

But an important social skill for many dogs is simply learning how to be calm around others.

Sitting nearby.
Relaxing together.
Existing without needing constant interaction.

For some dogs, that can be much harder and much more valuable, than play itself.

These quieter moments help dogs learn:
• how to settle around distractions
• how to cope around other dogs
• that they don’t always need to engage

And that’s a really important life skill.

💚🩷 Does your dog prefer calm company or active play?

Confidence often starts with curiosity. That moment where a dog pauses… watches… investigates… and decides to explore something new.

For many dogs, confidence grows through experiences where they feel:
• safe
• unpressured
• able to make choices for themselves

Not every dog will approach something new immediately and that’s okay.

When we allow dogs to explore at their own pace, we give them the opportunity to build confidence naturally. Sometimes the smallest moments of curiosity can become really important learning experiences.

💚🩷 What has your dog explored recently that made you proud?

Good morning folks, today is going to be a scorcher.. please look after yourselves and your dogs & other pets. The Pudsey dog park will be closed by lunchtime as it is too hot for them to be out in the mid day sun. The pavements do get very hot and burn the pads on their feet. Heat exhaustion is a killer. Here is a guide to help you.
Take care out there Debbie & the team - www.thepudseydogpark.co.uk

Good afternoon valued customers, I closed the park due to the heat. It really isn’t safe for dogs to be out running in this heat. I can reschedule or refund your appointment. Please advise on whatever your preference. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Debbie -The Pudsey dog park x Health and safety must come first

Exercises like “leave it” aren’t just about stopping dogs from picking things up.

They’re about helping dogs learn to pause, think, and make better choices. For puppies especially, that takes practice. Their brains are still developing, and impulse control doesn’t come naturally straight away.

By teaching these skills gradually, and making success achievable, we help puppies learn how to:
• slow down
• tolerate frustration
• focus through distraction

And those skills carry over into everyday life far beyond the exercise itself.

No two dogs learn in exactly the same way.
- Different ages.
- Different experiences.
- Different starting points.

What feels easy for one dog might feel much harder for another. That’s why good training isn’t about following a set formula. It’s about adapting to the dog in front of you and helping them succeed at their own pace.

Whether in a class or through more tailored support, the goal is the same: Clear, calm, achievable learning.

💚🩷 What makes your dog unique?

Puppy training can feel inconsistent. One day they seem to understand everything…The next, it feels like they’ve forgotten it all.

There’s a reason for that. Puppies’ brains are constantly changing.

They’re learning how to:
• process the world around them
• regulate their emotions
• build memory and understanding
• cope with new experiences

That development isn’t smooth or predictable. So what looks like “forgetting” is often just part of the process. It’s not about doing things perfectly. It’s about giving them the time, repetition and support they need while everything is still changing.

💚🩷 What’s something your puppy is currently figuring out?
