Tropical World at Roundhay Park is one of West Yorkshire’s most popular family attractions neighbouring Leeds' beauty spot Roundhay Park. Our zoo offers a unique opportunity to explore the habitats of the tropics and other hot places from around the world whilst only venturing as far as Leeds! The attraction includes jungle, desert, mangroves and aquatic habitats with plants and animals such as cr

ocodiles, butterflies, snakes and a gorgeous family of meerkats! Cold drinks and ice lollies are available to buy if you need to cool off or you can pop along to the Tropical World Café for teas, coffees, cakes or lunch.

We’ve installed brand‑new boards shining a spotlight on our partnership with SEED Madagascar and the incredible Project Phelsuma 🦎

Together, we’re supporting efforts to protect the critically endangered Antanosy gecko, its fragile habitat, and the local communities working hard to safeguard it.

📍 Next time you visit, head to Creature Corner to meet our Yellow-headed Day Gecko and Madagascar Day Gecko, two dazzling ambassadors for their wild cousins!

Bee surveying is back for 2026 🐝

Our Tropical World team is once again surveying bees at Roundhay Park to help monitor local populations and support conservation work across Leeds. It’s been a slow start to the season (due to the cooler weather), with just 2 bees recorded in March:
• White-tailed bumblebee – 1
• Buff-tailed bumblebee – 1

Things were picking up in April, with 9 bees spotted across 4 species:
• White-tailed bumblebee – 4
• Buff-tailed bumblebee – 1
• Honeybee – 3
• Ginger bumblebee (possibly common carder) – 1

These surveys help us understand how bees are doing and support efforts to protect these vital pollinators 🌼
