Unfortunately for the next 4-6 weeks I will be out of action having broken a bone in my left hand. Anybody booked in with me will be notified and moved to another appointment with either Leah or Rachel. Both who have been so supportive to me in keeping the business going. I will be going into work once I have had my operation to screw my bones back together just to help out where I can.

I love my job — but I want to be honest about what it really involves.

Dog grooming is not “playing with cute dogs all day.” It’s long hours on my feet, lifting and supporting dogs of all sizes, bending and twisting repeatedly, using my hands, wrists, shoulders, and back nonstop to groom safely and correctly.

Over time — especially during busy periods like Christmas the physical strain adds up. Back pain, sore joints, exhaustion, and burnout are very real in this industry. Many groomers don’t make it long-term due to injury.

Many groomers develop:
* carpal tunnel / tendonitis
* chronic back or shoulder pain
* grip weakness
* migraines or neck issues

This is why my appointments are limited, policies are in place, and realistic expectations are so important.

I’m incredibly grateful for every client who trusts me with their dog — I just hope this helps give a little insight into the work behind the scenes 🤍

To all my wonderful customers and their four-legged friends, I’d like to thank you sincerely for your continued support over the years. I am now entering my 16th year as Short Bark & Sides, and I’ve had the privilege of caring for some pets for almost that entire time. Sadly, a few of my much-loved four-legged friends have recently crossed the rainbow bridge — dogs I’ve known and groomed since they were puppies.

It truly is a privilege to look after and groom your pets and to watch them grow into their senior years. With that, I’d like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year. xx

If you require a groom before Christmas I can put you on the waiting list. People do cancel so it’s worth waiting.

It is with both sadness and best wishes that we announce Leah’s departure from Short Bark & Sides as she embarks on new ventures. We wish her every success and happiness in the exciting journey ahead.

As we adjust to this change, with only Rachel and myself available, appointment times may be more limited. We kindly encourage you to book in advance to ensure your preferred slot.
