𤊠A quick guide on how to get the most out of your behaviour consultation đ¤Š
1. Introduce your dog to the behaviourist and outline the exact issue(s) youâre wanting to work on.
Include here any emotional venting you want to release too.
2. Present to behaviourist a list of observations, tried interventions (including outcomes) and any video evidence you have collected.
Make sure you stick to the script!!
3. Be clear on your goal.
This means deciding what you do want as opposed to what youâre frustrated with. For example âI want to be able to leave my house for 2 hoursâ versus âI donât want my dog howling when I leave the houseâ. Be realistic about your life.
4. Let the behaviourist lead.
This is the bit youâre actually paying for. Listen to and discuss interventions. Key word here is discuss. Your behaviourist will present to you in most cases some immediate interventions aimed at management of and/or interactive solutions to help you achieve your goals.
5. Put the plan into action.
This requires effort on your part - under ongoing supervision and support of the behaviourist if thatâs what you need - but ultimately this is where plans become action.
6. Enjoy the process!
Once you become action orientated, youâre now playing a proactive part in a solution - not playing a passive part in a problem. This is awesomeâŚand inspiring. So enjoy the process and be proud of yourself âď¸!!
