📮 Tails From Holiday at Aunther Eleen’s – Day 1 📮

We are most offended. 😤

Mumther has departed on her annual pilgrimage to Download Festival, where she will spend several days standing in fields and singing (badly) to OUR favourite bands while we have been exiled to Aunther Eleen’s at House of Conures for an entire week yesterday. 🤬

This is clearly unacceptable on Mumther’s part.

However, the joke may be on Mumther because we have already begun negotiations with Aunther Eleen regarding:

🌾 Additional millet.
🛏️ Extended bedtime privileges.
🍃 Premium foraging opportunities.
👑 General treatment befitting our status.

At present, discussions are ongoing, but we remain optimistic. Although she did say “she doesn’t negotiate with beepers called Bonnie - HBR (head of beeper and human relations).” 🤣

📢 Note from Mumther:

I have discussed their demands with Eleen.

I’ve been informed that bedtime remains 8pm, regardless of whether they are on holiday or not.

She has also advised that treats are earned through good behaviour and is not an automatic entitlement. Sorry Bonnie. 🤣

HQ was extremely disappointed to learn this information. So jokes on you babies.

🐦 HQ – Attempting to charm Aunther Eleen.
🌾 Millet negotiations – Stalled.
🛏️ Bedtime extension request – Denied.
🎸 Mumther – At Download.
🤣 Eleen – Completely unbothered by their complaints.

I’m so incredibly grateful to have friends I trust with my flock when I need them, when their Dadther Base has annoyingly timed building work. 🐦🥰

💚 Meet Mr Violet and Mr Kiwi – aka The Budgie Boys. 💚

I recently had the pleasure of looking after these two handsome lads while their mum was away on holiday. 🏖️

Originally, they were due to board with Finch HQ. However, their routine pre-boarding PBFD test came back positive. So in the interests of protecting the birds at HQ and maintaining good biosecurity, their mum and I decided that an in-home sitting service was the best option instead.

After all, why should PBFD birds miss out on premium holiday care too? 🥹

This way, the boys still got thoroughly spoiled rotten, their mum had complete peace of mind knowing they were being cared for properly in their own home, and HQ remained protected. 🥰

It was also a fantastic opportunity to expand my knowledge and practical experience of barrier care and biosecurity measures, helping to prevent the spread of disease between households while still providing the highest standard of care. 😷

Every bird deserves kindness, enrichment, and excellent care, regardless of their circumstances. Mr Violet and Mr Kiwi certainly made sure I remembered that, along with reminding me exactly how much mischief two budgies can fit into a single day. 🤣

Can’t wait to see you again soon boys. 💚

🚨🧁 BREAKING NEWS: POPPY DEMANDS TO SPEAK TO MANAGEMENT 🧁🚨

Yesterday, Poppy somehow managed to injure the area around her eye and, within seconds, managed to redecorate both herself and me with far more blood than a zebra finch should reasonably contain.

Thankfully, I spotted it immediately and launched into full Finch HQ Emergency Response Mode™

✅ Eye cleaned
✅ Leucillin applied
✅ Hospital cage prepared
✅ Further self-inflicted damage prevented

Unfortunately for Poppy, the final step involved the creation of the world’s most undignified medical device:

A CUPCAKE CASE COLLAR. 🧁

Safe to say, she is not happy.

Current diagnosis:

👁️ Eye under observation
💜 Stable and being closely monitored
😡 Absolutely furious with me
🧁 Has been transformed into a tiny cupcake against her will

Acting quickly meant the area could be cleaned and treated straight away, hopefully giving the little lady the best chance of a speedy recovery.

The bad news is that Poppy now resembles a feathered m**derous muffin and spent the night plotting my downfall from the HQ Hospital Wing.

P.S. This is exactly why it’s so important to have a fully stocked first aid kit as a bird boarding facility, rescue, or even as a pet owner. Being able to act quickly can make a huge difference. In our case, I’ve been dealing with minor bird emergencies for years and were able to clean, assess and stabilise Poppy immediately.

However, if you’re ever in doubt, if the injury is severe, or if you’re not confident treating it, please contact your avian or emergency vet straight away. 💜🐦

💔 One Last Squad Photo 💔

Looking back now, this one hurts a little.

A squad photo from before we said goodbye to Roma. 💔😭🌈

At the time, it was just another ordinary Finch HQ moment. Tiny feet. Tiny beeps. Everyone gathered together as they always were. Nobody knew how precious this photo would become. 🥺

Roma wasn’t just part of Finch HQ. She was Finch HQ. Head Beeper. Queen of Elderville. Professional bedtime tub occupier. Occasional grump. Full-time heart thief. 🥺🐦

She left little pawprints all over this flock and somehow managed to hold everyone together with quiet strength, judgemental side-eye, and demands for appropriate bedtime arrangements.

Looking at this photo now, I can almost hear the little beeps and squabbles all over again. 💛

Some birds leave feathers behind. Some leave entire pieces of your heart.

Roma somehow managed both. 🌈💔✨

🚨 HQ SECURITY INCIDENT REPORT 🚨

Suspects: Poppy and Sooty.
Charges: Escaping custody.
Additional offences: Causing emotional distress to Mumther and making her engage in unexpected cardio. 🙄

The pair clearly believed HQ management had turned their back for one single second and decided it was therefore time for ✨crime✨.

Unfortunately for them, Mumther apparently unlocked secret ninja reflexes and both tiny escape artists were safely intercepted and returned to their cage before they could file flight plans or commit further acts of chaos. 🤣

Normally daytime zoomies are encouraged… but with the weather being so warm, today called for sensible choices and keeping little beepers cool and safe. 💛🐦

Poppy: “Freedom was within reach.”
Sooty: “We regret nothing.”
Mumther: “I need a snack and possibly a lie down.” 😭
