🍂 Autumn Availability Update 🍂

Let’s talk about the C word and I mean Christmas! Please get your minds out of the gutter. 🤣

October and November still have availability for:
🏡 In-home bird sitting
🦜 Specialist boarding
🚪 Drop-in visits

However, Christmas bookings are filling up very quickly! 🎅✨

If you’re planning an autumn getaway or already know your festive travel dates, now is the perfect time to get your birds booked in. I always hate having to turn people away especially last minute, so booking early gives you the best chance of securing your dates.

From 24th December until 16th January, I’ll be taking some much-needed annual leave to spend quality time with both my feathered family and my human family.

Unless we’ve already discussed and I’ve agreed your booking beforehand, these dates are now unavailable. 🗓️

💜💙 Sunday Stafford Throwback 💙💜

A little Sunday throwback to me and my BFF Eleen from House of Conures, absolutely knackered after Stafford but still managing to pose proudly in our bird-rescue uniform. 😂🐦

Eleen representing House of Conures in blue, me representing Tweet Retreats & Finch HQ in purple — and both of us looking like we’d already done approximately three working days before lunchtime. 🤣

Between us, there is never a dull moment. Bird rescues, collections, emergency missions, road trips, events, ridiculous ideas, endless bird-related conversations and all the other antics we somehow manage to get ourselves into together. 😂🙈

Having a friend who completely understands the madness of rescue life — and will happily join in with it — is pretty special. 🩷

Stafford was no exception: supplies, birds, catching up with people, plenty of laughs and general chaos until we were both thoroughly ready for a sit down!

Absolutely knackered? Yes.
Still causing mischief? Obviously.
Would we do it all again? Without question. 😂

Here’s to many more adventures, questionable decisions and tiny feathered passengers with my BFF in bird-related nonsense. 💜💙🐥

🦜 Mayhem’s Little Stopover 🦜

Meet Mayhem — a gorgeous conure who recently had a little 4 day Tweet Retreat with me before heading off to his new forever home in Newcastle. ❤️

Mayhem came from House of Conures in Manchester, and rather than everyone involved doing a stupid drive each way, I said he was more than welcome to crash at mine and have his new parents collect him from here.

Naturally, I became slightly attached. 🙈😂

We had lots of cuddles, but our favourite game involved me gently yeeting him off me, only for him to boomerang straight back for more.

Yeet. Return. Yeet. Return.

Apparently Mayhem had decided that personal space was optional but being yeeted was fun. 🤣🦜

There were definitely a few tears when his new family collected him last Saturday, because even when they’re only with you for a short time, these little characters have a habit of getting under your skin. 🥹

He’s settled wonderfully into his new home, he’s loved, and that’s all any of us could ask for. And he’s absolutely loving his foraging box that he took with, that we make and sell to support the rescue.

Sometimes helping birds doesn’t mean they stay with you forever. Sometimes you’re simply the safe little stop between one chapter and the next.

It was an absolute pleasure being yours for a little while, Mayhem. ❤️

Be good in Newcastle — or, given your name, at least try. 😂🦜

🌾 Feeding Time at Finch HQ: A Contact Sport 🌾

I can’t even put food on the floor without being IMMEDIATELY SWARMED. 😂

Apparently the concept of “wait until I’ve actually finished putting it down” does not exist at Finch HQ.

Sweep is, unsurprisingly, one of the main offenders — apparently a few weeks alone before coming here has been replaced by MUST PARTICIPATE IN EVERYTHING IMMEDIATELY (he’s the one already eating). 😂

Clyde is never far behind, zooping to see what’s going on, because heaven forbid another beeper reaches the food approximately three seconds before he does!

Even Our Henry decided manners were off the table today too!

Personal space? ❌
Patience? ❌
Waiting politely? Absolutely not. ❌
Being surrounded by tiny opportunists? ✅

I don’t feed the Finch HQ flock anymore.

I simply place myself in the middle of a feathery stampede and hope for the best. 🤣🐥❤️

On the way here a zebra finch has escaped out of her cage.
We only know rough area of alderly edge near a garage with apartment complex.
Shes used to people and a poor flyer.
Please if you see her try to capture her and message me on the number above.
She was a surrender so all contact will go trough me.

🐥 From Stafford Rescue to Tiny Recovering Heiress Canary™ 🐥

What a difference a few days can make!

On Sunday, I spotted this tiny little bird at Stafford looking very sorry for herself. She’s so young, rake thin, scruffy, struggling with her breathing and had a body condition of only around 1–2/5. I was given her for free, brought her home and genuinely wasn’t sure she’d make it through that first night.

The next day, she discovered something important: FOOD.

Seed? Yes.
Egg food? Absolutely.
Broccoli? Demolished.
Millet? Good job I now have a 15kg box. 🤣

She’s now being treated for an upper respiratory infection, worms and mites, alongside vitamin support with Aviform Nutrition UK - Avian Avigold Advance — and little pieces of her personality are appearing too.

She’s preening, perching properly and managing little flights. She’s discovered I make an excellent heated perimenopausal perch, and she’s found her voice with the cutest little squeaks. 🥺

Somewhere along the way, she got called Hope — because that’s exactly what she’s giving me. ❤️

Today her breathing has looked so much better and she’s been pottering around investigating everything.

Then I made a terrible mistake: I gave Dolly attention. Hope saw and was NOT impressed. 😂

Apparently a few days of unlimited catering, warmth and cuddles have been enough for Tiny Victorian Orphan Canary™ to upgrade herself to Tiny Recovering Heiress Canary™. 🐥👑

She’s still not out of the woods and we’re taking things slowly. But the little bird who needed all her energy just to get through that first night is now flying, exploring and getting cheeky.

And I couldn’t be happier to see it. ❤️

Hope won’t be available for adoption. Her forever home is right here at Finch HQ.

Welcome home, Hope. I think you’ve already decided you own the place. 😂❤️🐥

✂️ Nail Trim Day at Finch HQ ✂️

Apparently today was nail trim day, and I regret to inform everyone that customer satisfaction levels were, well, mixed. 🤣🙈

Lady Fluffs was deeply offended that I dared interfere with the Royal Budgie feet and has almost certainly filed a formal grievance with her dad. 👑🐦

Several members of HQ also made their feelings on the matter very clear, and I fully expect correspondence from their union reps shortly. Apparently “necessary routine care” is not considered an acceptable defence. 😂

And then there was Henry. ❤️

The ONLY one who behaved impeccably, accepted his little manicure without unnecessary theatrics and didn’t file a single complaint afterwards.

Just look at that face! 🤣😍

Good boy, Henry. Your exemplary conduct has officially been entered onto your permanent Finch HQ record. 🐦❤️

Everyone else? Your complaints have been received, carefully considered and promptly rejected. 😂✂️

I look forward to repeating the entire grievance procedure at the next nail trim. 🤣

💛 Wendy Bubbles Update 💛

Does everyone remember Wendy Bubbles, who came to HQ back in March after very nearly becoming a cat snack in her old home? 😭🐱🐦

Well, LOOK AT HER NOW! 🥹💛

Eyes pinned, still an absolute chonk, and clearly loving life with her sister Toby. Just look at those two with their greens! 🥬😂

This is one of my favourite parts of rescue. I absolutely love it when people who’ve adopted through us keep in touch and send little updates, because we get to see the birds we once cared for settled, loved and thriving in their new homes. 🥰

We miss you, Miss Bubs, but seeing you looking this happy makes my heart very full. 💛

And even better — we won’t have to miss you for too long…

We can’t wait for you and Toby to come for your very own Tweet Retreat soon! 🥹🐦🏡
