🐾 Protect your puppy’s joints – you only get one chance to grow them right
When you bring home your 8–10 week old puppy, it’s important to remember… their bodies are still very much under construction.
Those cute, wobbly movements and oversized paws?
That’s because their joints aren’t fully formed yet. Their bones aren’t properly fitted together, and their joints are supported mostly by soft tissues like muscles, ligaments, and tendons.
⚠️ Over-exercising at this stage can do more harm than good
Excessive running, jumping, and long walks can lead to:
• Damage to developing joints
• Poor growth and joint formation
• Increased risk of injuries later in life
Things to avoid:
✖ Jumping on/off sofas or beds
✖ Long walks or hikes
✖ Slippery floors with no grip
✖ Letting them overdo it during play
A small amount of normal play is absolutely fine, but repeated high-impact activity places unnecessary stress on growing bones.
⏳ Growth first, intensity later
Once your dog is fully developed (around 12–18 months depending on breed), you’ll have a lifetime to enjoy higher-impact activities together.
💧 Where does hydrotherapy fit in?
Hydrotherapy is a fantastic way to safely introduce exercise:
✔ Non weight-bearing environment
✔ Reduced impact on developing joints
✔ Helps build strength and confidence
✔ Controlled, safe movement
At Leeds Canine Hydrotherapy, we can help your puppy stay active without compromising their development 🐶
