*Dog walking (group/solo)

*Dog sit Welcome to Groovy Pups dog care services! We may be able to help!

Are you going on holiday and your dog needs a home away from home? Or do you need a bit of help with the care of your dog while you are at work? Or you just want your dog to spend a fun day with friendly and safe play mates? My name is Amélie and I run Groovy Pups, together with Pozzo, my Working Cocker Spaniel, and Lucy, my Labradoodle. I have grown up with dogs, either my own or taking care of f

riends’, and after 15 years of working in International Development, I relocated from London to Leeds with my Leeds-born partner and decided to follow my childhood dream of working with and taking care of dogs. I offer a variety of professional and premium services for your furry friend(s) ranging from group dog walking, solo dog walking or tailored pop-ins for dogs who may be a little anxious, older or recovering from an injury as well as tailored puppy visits. All services are offered in a safe environment and in a reliable, caring and trustworthy manner, suing solely reward-based, force free methods of care. For your peace of mind, I am:
* fully insured,
* DBS checked,
* Level 3 Canine First Aid certified
* Level 3 Canine Care, Behaviour and Welfare certified

The walks vary daily in the beautiful parks and countryside around North Leeds where the doggies can have lots of fun, explore and play safely. I like to keep the groups small and never walk more than 6 dogs at one time. Solo walks, pop-ins and puppy visits are tailored around you and your dog’s requirements. While walks are important for our dogs, regular enrichment that allows dogs to engage in their natural behaviour such as problem solving, bonding, playing, thinking, smelling, digging, chewing, etc..., is also key to happy, healthy and confident dogs. Therefore, each walk/visit includes enrichment activities customised to each dogs’ needs, physical abilities, energy levels and temperament. To ensure all my furry guests have a positive experience, I offer a free & no obligation meet and greet where we’ll go for a walk together, see if the dogs get along and are a good fit and where we can discuss your needs. If you think your dog might like to join Groovy Pups, please get in touch!

We had some lively pups at lunchtime! But it was quite warm so we played lots of ‘find it’ to keep everyone calm and engage those little brains. And of course the walk wouldn’t e complete without a bit of splashing about ☺️🐾 💦

Well, what a morning ! Thunder, lightning, hail, and amazing looking sky! We were meant to have an early start but ended up waiting till it all blew over. Didn’t want to risk walking in the woods with lightning ⚡️.
Lucy, Max and Goldie were really quite scared so they stayed at home and they’ll join us tomorrow. On the actual walk with started with raincoats and finished with sunshine ☀️

A bit of a rollercoaster on our third walk with Maggie, Hetty & Sandy 🐾💦

We had such a lovely walk and a huge win for Maggie today. She went into the stream for the very first time! 🥹 While Hetty and Sandy cooled off in the stream, we sat quietly and let Maggie explore at her own pace. One paw at the time. And then she bravely went for it! And she loved it. She kept going back again and again ❤️

Sadly, right at the very end of the walk, just by the car, Maggie got spooked and ran off. A very stressful 30 minutes later, we got our girl safely back 💛

Today was a reminder that, even when you take all the precautions in the world, do your risk assessments, know your dogs and try your very best to keep them safe, things can still happen. We’re just incredibly grateful this story had a happy ending 🙏

A huge thank you to the wonderful professional dog walking community who helped keep an eye out and offered support. We’re very lucky to have such caring people around us 🐶❤️

Well, guess what our theme of the day was… staying cool and splashing about!!!! 💦

We started extra, extra early and kept walks a little shorter so everyone could be home by 10am before the heat hit ☀️🐾

With 7 of our regulars away, we had lovely little groups today but that didn’t stop us having a smashing time cooling off and splashing in the streams! 💦🥰

☀️ It’s that time of year again! ☀️

As much as we all love the sunshine, warmer weather means making a few adjustments to help keep our doggies safe and happy 🐾

A few important reminders:

🐶 Dogs cool themselves differently to us. Unlike humans, they do not sweat efficiently through their skin and mainly regulate their body temperature through panting. This means they can struggle in the heat much more quickly than we realise.

🦮 If your dog wears a muzzle, please make sure it is large enough to allow them to fully open their mouth to pant and drink. Panting is essential for keeping cool ❤️

🌡️ There is no one-size-fits-all “safe” temperature. Risk depends on many factors including humidity, sun exposure, exercise, age, breed, health and excitement levels. Some dogs may struggle even around 17°C, while others cope better. Always look at the dog in front of you.

❤️ Some dogs are more at risk, including puppies, older dogs, flat-faced (brachycephalic) breeds, Nordic/heavy-coated breeds, overweight dogs and dogs with underlying health conditions.

🔥 Hot pavements can burn paws! As a rule of thumb, if you can’t comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for paws.

🚶‍♀️ During warmer weather, swap long walks for shorter, earlier or later outings, shady sniffy walks, garden visits and calmer activities.

🧠 Mental enrichment counts too! Sniffy games, treasure hunts, lick mats, frozen Kongs and chews can be just as rewarding (and much cooler!).

💧 Plenty of fresh water, shade and rest are key.

And remember: a dog has never suffered from missing a walk, but heatstroke can be life-threatening ❤️

Stay safe and enjoy the sun. ☀️.
