Before heading out for a summer walk, remember that our pets don’t do well in the heat.

Here are a few warm-weather walking tips:

🐾 If the ground feels too hot for your hand, it is too hot for your dog’s paws

💧 Take water with you

⏰ Choose walking in the morning or the evening on hot days

🚫 Avoid intense exercise in high temperatures

🏠 Stay home if it's too hot

A missed walk is much safer than heatstroke or sore paws.

Please don’t give your pet human medication. 💊🚫

We know it’s tempting when they seem sore, itchy, or unwell, but many common human meds can be dangerous and even life-threatening for pets, even in small doses. Pets process medicines differently, and what’s “safe for people” can cause stomach ulcers, kidney or liver damage, bleeding, or poisoning.

Also, giving medication can mask important symptoms, making it harder to diagnose what’s really going on.

If your pet isn’t feeling well, call us first. We’ll help you figure out what’s urgent, what you can do safely at home, and the right treatment for your pet’s size and situation. 💛

Some pets are little “savers”. They’ll tuck a biscuit under a cushion, stash a toy in the laundry basket, or bury it in the garden like they’re planning for next season. 😅

“I’ll only be a minute” can quickly become dangerous when a dog is left in a hot car. 🐶☀️

Cars can heat up much faster than many people realise, and dogs cannot cool themselves down in the same way we do. Once their body temperature rises, they can become seriously unwell very quickly.

Before you travel, ask yourself:

🐾 Can my dog come with me?

🐾 Is there somewhere safe and shaded for them outside of the car?

🐾 Would they be better staying at home?

If you need to stop somewhere your dog cannot go, please make other arrangements.

No errand is worth risking your dog’s life.

If you’ve recently adopted a new pet, we’re so happy for you!

Whether you’ve gained a new puppy/kitten or an adult or even senior pet, it’s always important to:

🐾 Be patient while your new pets adjust to your home and routines

🐾 Get them registered with us, get them a health check, and, if needed, vaccinations or parasite prevention treatments

🐾 If you have a new cat, invest in some environmental enrichment for your home, such as vertical structures, scratching posts and hiding spots

🐾 Keep changes slow: introduce new foods, people, and environments one step at a time to avoid stress and tummy upsets

🐾 Set up a “safe zone” where they can decompress

🐾 Start gentle handling and training early (paws, ears, mouth) with treats, so future care is easier

🐾 If you already have pets, do calm, supervised introductions and give everyone their own space and resources, such as beds, bowls and litter trays

And remember: questions are normal. If you’re unsure about anything, we’re here to help. 🩺
Tell us below: what’s your new pet’s name (and how old are they)? 🐶🐱👇

Those tiny squishy paw pads do a lot: they help with grip, cushion every jump, and (yes) leave the cutest little prints. Whether they’re pink, black, speckled, or somewhere in between… we’re obsessed.

If your cat stops eating for even a couple of days, bring them to us. Cats can develop hepatic lipidosis, a dangerous condition where fat builds up in the liver, and the liver starts to fail.

Signs to watch out for:

🐾 Not eating or eating much less (often 24–48 hours is enough to worry)

🐾 Lethargy and hiding more than usual

🐾 Vomiting or drooling

🐾 Rapid weight loss

🐾 Yellow gums/eyes/ears (jaundice)

🐾 Weakness or wobbliness

A cat can stop eating due to stress (moving house, a new pet or baby in the family) or due to illness (dental pain, infections and so on).

It’s important to know that overweight cats are at a higher risk if they suddenly stop eating.

If your cat isn’t eating normally for a full day (or you’re seeing any jaundice), call us right away. Early treatment can be lifesaving, and it often requires nutritional support to get calories back in safely.

Within every veterinary professional there’s a radiologist, a phlebotomy technician, an anaesthesiologist, an emergency and critical care professional who sometimes has to juggle a first puppy or kitten consultation and a euthanasia on the very same day.

Vets do all of this with professionalism and compassion and with a true passion for the animals they treat.

When you visit us, please remember this and be kind. 🥰
