The Dog Lounge is officially OPEN! 🤎

I still can’t quite believe I’m saying that!

There’s still plenty to finish and a few little details to sort out, but after months of hard work, the doors are finally open and we’re ready to welcome your lovely pets!

It’s taken a lot to get to this point, and although the salon isn’t quite finished yet, I’m so happy to finally be doing what I love again.

How often should my dog actually be groomed?

It sounds like it should have a simple answer, but it really doesn’t.

There isn’t one perfect schedule that works for every dog, and “every 6 weeks” is only a starting point, not a rule. A dog’s coat type, the style you want to maintain, how well the coat is looked after at home, their lifestyle, age, skin, health and even how comfortable they are with grooming can all change what makes sense.

A longer, fluffier coat will usually need more regular maintenance. A dog that is brushed and combed properly between appointments may be able to comfortably maintain more length. And a dog that swims, gets muddy, wears a harness regularly or spends a lot of time outdoors may have completely different needs again.

That’s why I don’t really believe in squeezing every dog into the same grooming timetable.

The right schedule is the one that keeps the coat manageable, keeps your dog comfortable and works with the style you’d like to maintain.

Not simply the longest possible gap between appointments.

If you’re never quite sure when you should be booking your dog back in, save this post for later, and speak to your groomer about what actually suits your dog. 🤍🐾

I genuinely thought opening a grooming salon would involve a lot more grooming and a lot less DIY 😂

Instead, I’ve somehow become a painter, decorator, cleaner, furniture builder and professional overthinker of approximately 847 tiny decisions a day. It’s been messy, tiring and definitely not as glamorous as the finished photos will eventually make it look, but I’m actually really glad I’ve documented this part too. Bit by bit, it’s starting to look like the place I’ve had in my head for so long.

The Dog Lounge is getting there 🤍

While we’re getting everything ready for opening, I’ve also been working on expanding my creative grooming skills. I can’t wait to start offering some fun little extras, from coloured ears and tails to subtle creative touches for dogs who suit it. 🎨👩‍🎨 It’s been so much fun learning new techniques and getting to play with a bit more colour and creativity. 🐾A huge thank you to Anda from Head Or Tail Dog Grooming for being so brilliant, patient and generous with her knowledge. You’re amazing, and I really enjoyed every minute of it. 🤍

I can’t wait to bring some of these creative touches to The Dog Lounge very soon 🤎

A calm, kind, one-to-one grooming space, where every appointment is tailored to your dog.

🎇 Happy Bonfire Night from The Dog Lounge 🎆

We know nights like this can be a little worrying for our pets. We want to send a big hug to every dog and cat who might feel unsure with all the loud bangs in the sky. You are not alone, we are thinking of you and your furry family tonight.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep pets calm and comfortable:

• Keep them indoors with curtains closed
• Put on the TV or calming music to soften the noise
• Create a cosy safe spot with their favourite blanket and toys
• Offer treats and gentle reassurance
• Make sure their collar has an ID tag just in case

We would love to see how you are helping your pets feel safe this evening. Share a photo or let us know their names in the comments. We miss seeing all those sweet faces and wagging tails.
