Henry.
What a trooper, when he arrived he had years of tendon and ligament damage from huge imbalance in his feet and joints.

7 months in and we are looking fabulous.
Not fixed completely yet , we have a workup due this week where we take the next steps into seeing if we need any joint Injections or any other body places looked at .

But for the first time putting him in the arena to see how he is looking I am very pleased .
Most horses come with soft tissue damage 💔, its very easily rectified in most cases ,when you balance the feet and joints correctly to where nature wants them 🙏.12-24 months is what we normally say to owners for rehab, but the longer the damage has been there the longer it takes ,and sadly sometimes we are the last call thats made .

Vet was so impressed he called me 🤣👌

Nice steady journey for mickey. Lovely example.

Mickey really did grow out an absolute whopper of a wedge, and it gives us a much clearer picture of the true extent of the separation that was present within the hoof capsule.

When Mickey arrived, separation was visible both externally and on his X-rays, but its full extent was difficult to appreciate because the distorted hoof capsule had been repeatedly rasped away by his previous HCP. By removing the external evidence of the distortion, you can also remove some of the visual clues as to what is actually happening within the capsule.

Leaving the wedge intact allows the hoof capsule to maintain its structural integrity while it grows out. It also helps preserve and develop vertical depth beneath the tip of P3, whilst protecting the sole in an area that had previously been repeatedly thinned.

Our approach at GTL is to lower the heels back towards the hard sole plane whilst allowing the front of the hoof capsule and sole to recover and grow forwards naturally.

As you can see, the amount of stretch and separation has progressively reduced over the last few months. There is now only a small amount remaining.

What was once a significant area of separation within the capsule is gradually growing out and away, being replaced by a much tighter, healthier connection as the new hoof capsule develops.

A completely new hoof capsule takes approximately 9–12 months to grow from coronary band to ground level, so Mickey is doing absolutely brilliantly.

This is why we focus on the hoof as a whole and, most importantly, give the foot the time and environment it needs to rebuild itself properly. ❤️

Victoria having to move the herd down to the bottom today for breakfast, normally they bring themselves down about 6.30am . But not today for some reason 🤷‍♀️. Poor Victoria ,she probably did not need the extra half mile walk 😂🙈
