We have just had notification today of a change to the pet travel rules. Disappointingly, although there was suggestion last year that UK Pet Passports would soon return this is still not on the horizon. To make matters worse, from Wed 22nd April 2026, EU Pet Passports will no longer be valid for travel from the UK unless the owner's main residence is in the EU.

This will mean that any pets travelling after Wed 22nd April 2026 will need an Animal Health Certificate prior to travel.

Below is the text from today's Animal & Plant Health Agency update:

3.
From 22 April 2026, new EU rules will apply to the non‑commercial movement of dogs, cats and ferrets entering the EU from third countries such as Great Britain (GB). Pet owners are advised to check the entry requirements with the relevant authority in the destination country before travel.
4.
An EU pet passport, issued to or held by a pet owner who is resident in GB, will no longer be a valid document for travelling with pets from GB to the EU. This applies to EU pet passports issued in an EU Member State or Northern Ireland, including those issued before 22 April 2026. EU pet passports may only be issued to owners whose main residence is within the European Union.
5.
GB residents travelling to the EU with a pet dog, cat or ferret will need to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for travel from 22 April 2026.
6.
There are no changes to GB entry requirements.

With sadness we wave goodbye to our ever popular receptionist Emily as she leaves us for pastures new.

She has been a wonderful colleague and friend to us all for almost 5 years and has been a great asset to the practice.

Emily has built a wonderful rapport with our clients and their furry friends over the years, offering a friendly face and reassuring voice to you all, and know she will be missed by many.

Emily has helped support the team in so many ways, not least with her fabulous organisation skills wading through all the admin, her lovely humour and steady nature, and fortunately has shared in our dedication to tea drinking !

Emily is swapping a world of client care and pets for classrooms and little children and we wish her every success and hope she really enjoys her new role!

She will be greatly missed by us all, and knows the kettle is always on for a cuppa anytime!
