Alder’s Release 🌿🦔

Alder came into our care last month after being picked up by his finder’s dog. Thankfully, his finder knew it was best to have him checked over rather than simply putting him back out — and we’re so glad they did.

Although Alder had no injuries, he was found to have Capillaria, which he has since been treated for.

Today, Alder was released into foster carers Stoo and Kirsty’s garden, where he has a safe, supportive environment to thrive. He even has his very own hedgehog house, lovingly made by Stoo, to help him settle in 🏡

Thank you to everyone involved in giving Alder the second chance he deserves 💚

George’s freedom day 🦔💚

George was admitted to us back in March in quite a sorry state. He was riddled with fleas, suffering from intestinal parasites, and had lost large areas of his spines due to ringworm. His skin was sore and inflamed, and to make matters worse, he had been getting bullied by other hedgehogs.

The good news is that George had a fantastic appetite and quickly gained weight — but as many of you know, regrowing spines takes time and patience.

Over the past few weeks, George has been in the wonderful care of Emma while his final spines came through. She has done an absolutely fantastic job nursing him back to full health and getting him ready for the wild again.

Tonight, Emma released George back into his finder’s garden, right where he belongs 🦔✨

⚠️ Important Advice About Hedgehogs Seen in Daylight ⚠️

It has been brought to my attention that some members of the public are being advised—by vets and even other rescues—to simply put a hedgehog back outside if it’s found during the daytime.

Please do not do this.

A hedgehog that is out in the daytime almost always needs help - the exception being nursing mothers. This is not normal behaviour and is often a sign of illness, injury, dehydration, or that the hedgehog is an orphan.

Although my doors are currently closed to new admissions, I have still been working behind the scenes to secure spaces for hedgehogs in need and will always do my best to help you find a rescue or someone who can assist.

If you find a hedgehog out during the day, please always contact a rescue—even if it’s just for advice on what to do next or where to take them.

I am always happy to advise, and I am genuinely shocked that this kind of advice has been given.

Please share to help spread the correct information and protect our hedgehogs 🦔💚

Today we received some much-needed supplies — Royal Canin Mother & Babycat food, Royal Canin puppy mousse, and a box of 1ml syringes. These went straight into use, so no photos this time, but please know how grateful we are. Thank you so much for your support — with so many growing hoglets in our care, they get through food incredibly quickly!

Since I don’t have a photo of the donations to share, let me introduce you to Bonnie 🦔

Bonnie was handed into Gordon Vets in Edinburgh (who also gave her her lovely name) weighing just 128g. She’s now safe with us and getting all the care she needs to grow strong.

Rescues everywhere are seeing a huge increase in the number of hoglets needing help this year, and we truly couldn’t do this without your kindness and support 💚

Meet Cloudy ☁️ (Sunny’s baby), who ventured out of the nest for the very first time to say hello during clean out —and to sample some Lily’s Kitchen kitten pâté, which was very well received!

Sunny has done an absolutely amazing job, especially after the heartbreaking loss of both of Cloudy’s siblings. She’s been such a calm and relaxed mum throughout, and it really shows in how confident little Cloudy is becoming.

Moments like this make it all worthwhile 💛

Today was Lente and her babies Pip and Squeak’s turn to be released 🦔💚

These little ones were born unexpectedly in foster carer Jennifer’s garden, but thanks to her dedication and care, they have absolutely thrived. It’s been a joy to watch them grow strong and healthy, ready for their return to the wild where they belong.

A huge thank you to Jennifer for giving them the best possible start in life, and to Isabelle for once again kindly hosting a safe release space — the same garden that little Egeltje was released into 🏡✨

Meet Charlie and Lucky – two little brothers found in Cleghorn weighing just 100g each. They were dehydrated and far too young to be away from their mum.

They’re now safe with us and receiving the care they need. We currently have 7 hoglets in the rescue 🦔

As you can imagine, our supplies are being used up quickly. We are urgently running low on:

Ceder arrived at the rescue back in December in a heartbreaking state — emaciated, riddled with Capillaria, suffering from ringworm, and with a deformed foot. It’s been a long road, but he has made a truly remarkable recovery 💚

His ringworm proved incredibly stubborn, meaning his stay with us had to be extended. During that time, he was fostered by the wonderful Emma, who did an amazing job keeping up with his treatments and making sure his run was full of enrichment to keep him happy and stimulated.

As Ceder was originally handed in to a local vet, we never knew exactly where he came from. But that doesn’t matter now — he has earned himself a safe and permanent spot in the Hogamammas garden, where Aspen still comes to visit 🦔

This evening, Ceder was finally released. He didn’t go far — heading straight up to the entrance of his brand new house (beautifully built by Stoo) to take in his surroundings. A perfect, calm start to his new chapter.

Really worthwhile petition to consider signing.
I was able to have a couple of signs put up in my village (private roads) and they have made a difference.

🦔 HELP US BRING LIFE-SAVING HEDGEHOG ROAD SIGNS TO SCOTLAND 🦔

Thousands of hedgehogs are killed on Scotland's roads every year.

The good news? Dedicated Small Animal Warning Signs have already been approved and introduced in England.

The bad news? They are not currently approved for use in Scotland.

That's why we've launched a petition calling on the Scottish Government to allow these signs to be installed in areas where hedgehog road deaths are particularly high.

This is a simple, practical step that could help raise driver awareness and save countless hedgehogs across Scotland.
