Independent evaluation. University of Glasgow ethics approval. Surveys run entirely outside our control.

Every measure moved in the right direction. Nobody got worse. Self-efficacy showed the strongest change of all β€” because horses don't respond to job titles, only to whether what you're doing matches what you mean.

Small sample, no control group, and we're saying so.

The same approach runs through everything here, from leadership sessions to the young people on the yard every weekend. Come and see it for yourself β€” we're always looking for volunteers 🐴 get in touch at [email protected]

This is Beauty.

A rescued Thoroughbred who came to us after a hard start, and who has spent the years since helping young people find their confidence again. The ones who won't speak in a classroom. The ones who arrive angry. The ones who've been let down before.

She now has severe spinal problems and needs specialist veterinary treatment.

Our team walks the Kiltwalk in two weeks, and Beauty's operation is the first thing the money goes to. After that: 10 ABRS blocks for our young people, support for our 25 volunteers to stay on site, and 10 subsidised pony day places for the holidays.

Β£5,000 is the target. Sponsor our walkers πŸ‘‡

Turns out the nation's favourite businesses include one at the end of a muddy track in Berwickshire. 🐴

We've been named one of the Nation's Favourite Businesses 2026 by . No shop front. No high street. Twenty-odd horses, a solar panel, and a lot of young people who found their feet here.

Four of our six staff arrived as kids who weren't coping. They're on the payroll now.

Thank you to everyone who put us forward. This one's yours.

πŸ„ Calvin and Ollie built a mushroom shed

Oyster mushrooms, grown in the shed at Quarry Farm, from a project the two of them have been running as part of their Young Environmental Leader Award.

Both are volunteers, and both travel over from Gorebridge to be here. There's no version of this that happens in a classroom. They worked out the substrate, the humidity, the timing and the harvest, and they did it because they wanted to. That's what the award is for β€” young people leading an environmental project of their own rather than being told about one.

Watch the full video on our YouTube. They explain it better than we could πŸ‘‡

Want to get involved in the growing? We run Young Environmental Leader Awards and Dynamic Youth Awards for climate action here, and there's always room for another project. Message us or email [email protected] to find out more 🌱

🏴 In two weeks our team walks the Kiltwalk for Eat, Sleep, Ride.

All our walkers' pages sit under one campaign, and we're aiming for Β£5,000. Here's exactly what that pays for:

🐴 Beauty's operation. One of our rescued Thoroughbreds, severe spinal problems, years spent helping other people heal. Now it's her turn.

πŸ… 10 ABRS blocks β€” proper blocks of horse care and riding education, ending in a recognised qualification. Not a taster. A real award a young person can take anywhere.

πŸ’š Support for our volunteers to stay on site. We have around 25 active volunteers, and staying over means the ones who travel furthest, or who have the least at home, can be part of the yard properly.

🌱 10 subsidised pony day places for the school holidays, so cost isn't the reason a child misses out.

Β£1,021 in already, before a single boot hits the road.

🐴 This is Our Herd Process β€” built by our volunteers, staff and young people together.

Different ages, different experience, everyone with something to say. We asked them to map out how we actually work as a team on the yard, and this is what came back.

Welcome. Check the environment. Then everyone takes a role, every hack and every lesson:
🐎 Lead Mare β€” leads and guides the group
πŸ‘€ Sentinels β€” watch what's happening outside the herd
πŸ›‘οΈ Stallion β€” watches the rear and supports the group

And the line that matters most: the Lead Mare always needs help from her herd.

That's shared leadership. Not one person in charge and everyone else following β€” a group where the youngest person on the yard is expected to speak up, and the most experienced is expected to listen.

Want to be part of it? We're always looking for volunteers, and we bring this same way of working to organisations through equine assisted coaching. Get in touch 🌱by emailing [email protected]

🐴 Good news landed this morning β€” our EASP membership has been renewed and our listing on the Human Equine Interaction Register (HEIR) has been approved for another year.

That means Eat Sleep Ride carries the HEIR Approved kitemark, and anyone looking for equine assisted services can find us on the national register.

For the young people, families and communities we work with, it's a mark that what happens here at Quarry Farm is delivered to a recognised standard β€” for the people and for the horses.

Find us on the register at easp.co.uk 🌱

Working with a horse at liberty means no rope, no headcollar, nothing to make them stay.

They stay because of how you are with them.

That is what our family sessions are built around. Families work together with the horses loose in the space, and very quickly you find out how your family actually communicates. Who talks over who. Who goes quiet. Who is trying so hard to get it right that the horse walks away.

None of that is a criticism. It is just information, and it is information horses give instantly and without judgement. A child who is usually told they do not listen turns out to be the one paying closest attention. A parent who is used to directing everything discovers that the horse responds better when they stop.

We use the Diamond Model, a structured framework for equine-assisted learning, so this is not a case of hoping something meaningful happens. There is a shape to the work.

No riding. No horse experience needed.
