Introducing Rocky 💙

When I first met this young man, he would get terribly frustrated if he wasn’t able to say hello to every dog—and scream and shout about it!

If he was allowed to say hello, he would get too excited, mess up the greeting and get told off! (Which would mean a dip in his optimism.)

But by playing concept (skill) games that built his optimism and disengagement skills and helped him develop his tolerance for frustration, look at the remarkable improvement in his behaviour around dogs!

Every dog is born with this natural approach chain:

See dog → approach calmly → sniff nose → sniff bum → play → disengage

Somewhere along the way, though, that chain of events gets broken.

It might be through misguided advice around socialisation, poorly run puppy classes, things picked up from the internet, or simply bad experiences with other dogs.

And once that natural sequence gets disrupted, what should have been a calm, fluid interaction can become something very different.

But by playing optimism and disengagement games look how you can repair the chain for EVERY DOG 💙

There are so many so-called ‘reactive dog trainers’ in Cheshire — here is how we stand out in the crowd.

When your dog barks, lunges or struggles around other dogs, you need a plan that considers both how they feel and what they do. 💙

Our approach brings together three areas of training:

🐾 Operant conditioning — rewarding better choices
We reinforce useful behaviours such as checking in with you, turning away from a trigger and walking calmly. We help your dog learn what to do in situations they find difficult.

🐾 Counter conditioning — changing how triggers feel
We pair the sight of a trigger with something your dog loves, working at a distance they can comfortably handle. The aim is to build a more positive emotional response over time.

🐾 Concept training — building everyday skills
Through carefully chosen games, we practise focus, flexibility, confidence and calmness, then help your dog use those skills in everyday situations.

By looking through these three lenses, we can build a plan that helps your dog feel calmer, make better choices and cope more confidently. With consistent practice, the progress can be remarkable! 💙

Struggling with your German Shepherd’s reactivity—or that of another large breed? 🐾

Introducing Blue 💙

This young lad joined us for one of our free sessions after his mum, Kayliegh, had previously worked with a trainer who used punishment to address his reactivity.

We introduced concept games to build Blue’s confidence and encourage better decision-making, alongside counter-conditioning to help him feel calmer around other dogs.

His progress has been remarkable! Blue can now walk past dogs without overreacting, enjoy time off lead without chasing other dogs, and his loose-lead walking has come on brilliantly. 🙌
