Very sadly the world has lost a shining light, a truly wonderful and kind soul who did so much for animals and people in need. Valerie Anne Kear was a dear friend and an inspiration to us all. It was during our time with her at Broadoak farm in Mobberly in the 90s and early 00s that the first seeds of the idea behind PHP were sown. Over the years these grew and developed into the Positive Herd Project, but it always had its roots there.
Val also founded Spirit of the Herd pony sanctuary Helsby and dedicated her life to helping rescue horses, ponies and people. That sanctuary is the product of her life’s dreams and years of hard work. It is an appalling tragedy that she was not able to continue finding happiness there in more recent years. Valerie has always been welcome at The Positive Herd Project, we owe everything we have achieved to her. It gives us great comfort that she was able to spend happy days at our farm with the horses, training in the sunshine and being in her element.

Valerie you have changed so many lives for the better, including ours. For that we will be forever grateful and will always hold you in our hearts. Thank you for being such a bright light and guiding the way for so many ✨✨

Cancelled; unfortunately we’re not going to be at Thompson House Equestrian Centre tonight, but we’ll definitely be back for the next sale! See you then!

We’re back for 2024 at Thompson House Equestrian Centre this Friday at 7pm, holding our infamous table top stall to raise money for the horses in our care! If you’re in the area pop over to say hello, there’s a cafe on site and loads of equestrian bargains to be had at the stalls. We can’t wait to get back to doing the sales, they’re always lots of fun and we meet so many lovely people! Every penny raised goes straight back to the horses too, making it even more satisfying 😊

Reno, Dotty, Zilly and Troy are very happy after moving to a new field yesterday! They have endured a muddy winter and were very glad of the grass! All 4 loaded perfectly as always and travelled like a dream. They’re so good and always make us very proud 🥰

On Sunday we have a wonderful volunteer selling hand made merchandise and gifts to raise funds for the horses. If you’re around Manchester why not pop in and pick up some beautifully crafted presents for under the tree!? 🎄

⭐️ Urgent home required - Direct rehome ⭐️

This bonded mother and son pair are looking for a forever loan home due to owner ill health. Sadly we can’t take them on as we’re full to capacity!

They are both registered with the Shetland pony society and up to date with their vaccinations and worming program.
Goldie(Chamness cloud dancer) is a sweet tempered palamino mare who is 17 years old and is the mother of Teddy. She is good with the farrier but can be a little unsure when being caught and so would benefit from some positive reinforcement training to help her with this.

Teddy (Dancers foxtrot Teddy boy) is a confident and boisterous little boy of just 6 years old. He is sensitive to the summer flies and can be a little unsure of some of the treatments with this and so would benefit from some positive reinforcement training regarding this and general handling.
They are only available as a pair and are looking for a small field with a shelter.

We’re leaving Moorsbarrow Lodge Farm at the end of October, and are having a series of work party days to take down all the horse areas before then. They’ll be each Thursday between approximately 10am- 4pm, anyone is welcome to join us and help.

There aren’t a lot of horses left on site and those that are there will be moving in the next couple of weeks. It’d be great to see some familiar faces on these days so that we can get things packed down quickly. Each week we’ll focus on a different barn/ area to dismantle. Ideal if you need to get any work experience/ volunteer hours in or just want to spend some time at the farm before we leave at the end of the month.

It’s been an honour to have run this project for the past 3 years, and we have hugely valued all the help and support we’ve had in that time. Thank you for making it possible, and hopefully see you soon.

It’s been a sad week, we’ve said goodbye to 8 livery horses and will miss them all dearly. We’ve looked after these horses everyday for years and love them like our own. We’re just so happy that they managed to find lovely, well suited yards to go to that will meet their needs and keep them happy and healthy. Best of luck to all you lovely horses and owners on the rest of your journey. You’ll all be missed greatly! 💜

Grazing desperately needed! Looking for winter grazing land with or without stables and/or buildings around Cheshire, to move end of October. To house our herds of rescue horses until we find a long term premises.

Our biggest stall ever today at Thompson House Equestrian and thankfully we’re busier than ever! Raising vital funds for our horses ahead of a difficult winter! Thank you to everyone who has paid us a visit already. We’re here until 1pm so if you’re near Wigan come and say hello!
