Meet Herbie, the four-legged member of the team at Knutsford Academy, Cheshire! 🐶🎓

Herbie has been spending time on Mondays at school, supporting the children through their mornings — offering comfort, calm, and plenty of waggy-tailed encouragement. 🥰

And let’s just say… she absolutely LOVES her job! 💕 The attention, the fuss, the little moments with the kids — Herbie couldn’t be happier.

🐶 Dogs can bring so much joy and comfort to children, helping create a calmer, welcoming, happier environment where they can feel supported and connected.

Sometimes, all you need is a wagging tail and a friendly face. 🐾❤️

🐾 Want to teach your puppy to SIT? Start here! 👇

Teaching puppy sit is one of the easiest and most useful puppy training exercises—and you can start by simply marking and rewarding the behaviour your puppy is already offering.

✨ How to teach your puppy to sit:

🐶 Hold a tasty treat in your hand.
⬆️ Use the treat to lure your puppy, slowly lifting your hand slightly upwards and back.
🍑 As your puppy follows the lure, their bum will naturally move towards the floor.
🗣️ The moment their bum hits the floor, say “SIT” and reward! 🎉

The key is timing. We start by marking and reinforcing what the puppy is already doing, then we add the cue.

Keep training sessions short, fun and full of rewards! 🐾

Sit. Reward. Repeat. Build success. 💛

🧠 Focus around real-world distractions

Because great loose lead walking isn’t about controlling every step.

✨ 1. Reward the behaviour you want...
When your dog chooses to walk beside you with a loose lead — mark it and reward it.
Don’t wait until they’re pulling.

✨ 2. Make YOU worth checking in with..
Change direction, vary your pace, play little engagement games and reward your dog for choosing to reconnect with you.

✨ 3. Reinforce, don’t intimidate...
Positive reinforcement isn’t about bribing your dog. It’s about teaching them *what works* and making the right choice worthwhile.

🐾 Does your dog hate getting in the car?
It doesn’t have to stay that way.

This gorgeous boy used to get grumpy with his owners around the car — especially when it was time to get in or out.

Using positive reinforcement, reward-based training and choice, 💚 we worked on rebuilding his confidence and creating a positive association with the car.

And the result? ✨

He’s now learning to independently get into the car — because he chooses to.

That’s the power of positive dog training.

When we understand why a dog is struggling and teach an alternative behaviour, we can create lasting change without conflict.

🐾 “He HATED his harness…”

So we didn’t force it.
We conditioned it. ❤️

This dog found the harness stressful — and simply putting it on wasn’t an option.

Instead of pushing through his discomfort, we went back to basics.

✨ Harness = good things
✨ Harness appearing = choice
✨ Approaching harness = rewards
✨ Touching harness = rewards
✨ Putting it on = gradually introduced
✨ Calm behaviour = reinforced

No forcing.
No wrestling.
No “he just needs to get used to it.”

Patience, positive reinforcement and carefully planned desensitisation and counter-conditioning.

And look at him now! 🥹🐶

It's okay to revisit the basics with your dog during adolescence. 🐾

As your puppy grows, their brain is developing, hormones are changing, and the world suddenly becomes much more exciting. Skills they knew well may seem to disappear—but they haven't forgotten. They just need a little extra guidance.

Going back to foundation training helps build confidence, strengthens your bond, and reminds your dog that making good choices is rewarding. Progress isn't always linear, and that's completely normal.

Be patient, stay consistent, and celebrate the small wins—they all add up. 💛
