Today I ran a Foundation trial for The National Nosework Association and the standard of sniffing was really high!

6 teams, everyone going home with at least two badges. Great work!

The challenges I set were all "earlier than you might expect" hides, but that didn't actually cause a huge amount of problems. You guys trusted your dogs and worked the areas really well.

No classes this week, I had a week of planned holiday which is actually a bloody good thing because it's due to be plus 30's this week so I'd of been cancelling and rearranging anyway.

Off to spend some time with the family and my own dogs ❤️

Keep your dogs safe and hydrated! Watch out for the emails and WhatsApp group, time off classes means time working on booking, arranging and sorting 🤞🏼

Home from a wonderful day teaching a Heelwork To Music / Freestyle workshop over in Ludlow.

We looked at communication with our dog, how this needs to stand up under ring pressure, we took a look at anticipation and how to use and prevent it. We then ended with a ring set up and had all 8 teams doing training rounds to finish.

Well done guys, a very fun and varied day! I loved working with you all! ❤️🐾

I feel so bloody lucky to work with the teams I work with ❤️💪🏼

I'm pretty sure that a few weeks or months ago this would not have been possible, but Beth has put in so much work with Finn.

In a series of one to ones, Beth and I have been working to see what we can do to help Finn manage his arousal when he indicates and goes from sniffy sniffy hunty hunty to freeze.

Last session we talked about introducing a new marker word to predict rewards being given to him at source. Today we introduced it to a little search. Finn looked great, no biting, no frustration, just clear communication developing between them 💪🏼

Amaze-balls Beth and Finn ❤️❤️❤️

I ❤️ this post!

So often I hear arousal in dog sports being framed as the enemy, I feel like it's a hugely misunderstood subject, particularly in scent work!!!

I love these two clips from Atticus and Sal, from my Thursday night Back To Basics Class.

This was the final class of a four week course, and we finished by looking at some confidence building exercises. Here the hide is deep under the chairs, the dogs worked hard to get to source and I love watching the teams problem solve this one!

This morning I ran an Exterior Focus Trial at Ludlow Racecourse. Lots of lovely searching from all the teams. Congratula...

This morning I ran an Exterior Focus Trial at Ludlow Racecourse. Lots of lovely searching from all the teams.

Congratulations to all the teams who came away with a badge and to those who achieved their training goals. Congratulations to Sally & Atticus who found all the hides in both searches 🔥❤️

🤞🏼🐾❤️ Venue Suggestions ❤️🐾🤞🏼

As many of you know, I compete in Heelwork To Music and I travel the length of the country to attend shows and training.

I'd love to get more going locally, not only to save some milage on my van 🤣 but also to open up more Heelwork To Music opportunities in Wales / Shropshire / Herefordshire.

Think workshops, training shows and maybe (just maybe!!) Kennel Club shows in the future.

But I need a space!

I already hire a number of places locally, which I am incredibly grateful to use and will continue to use!! but many of them I need to put my own flooring down which is a blocker when I just want to use it for an evening or a day for my own dogs. The dogs work at speed and need to be safe, hence no slippy surfaces. We also throw treats (a lot) and do routines on the floor with props so that means horse sand schools aren't always a great option. (Although I have a couple of places I use personally and love them very much! But they aren't for everyone in the sport).

So I'm putting the call out! Do you know somewhere that:

🐾 Has large carpeted area which is empty or can be emptied with relative ease

🐾 Has a car park

🐾 Has an on-site toilet and kitchen area

🐾 Would be interested in hiring to a dog training professional (insured, qualified, trustworthy, has references etc.) for a day or evening on a semi-regular basis

If you know somewhere, please drop it down as a suggestion, or if you own somewhere privately please feel free to contact me. I'm based Knighton / Presteigne but willing to travel into Wales, Shropshire and Herefordshire for the right venue.

Generally the places we have used in other parts of the country aren't "dog friendly" but the business is willing to chat about our requirements and happy to have us in as an exception. For example, last weekend we were at a leisure centre! So even if you aren't "sure" about the dog element, let's have a chat!
