Hi everyone 🌳 🐾

🚨 We have been notified of a missing female cat within the area 🐱 🐈 🚨

Her name is Cinnamon and she is a Grey 🩶, British Short Hair and is wearing a red collar with a little bell on it ❤️🔔
She is only nearly 1 year old, so still quite young.
This is the first time she has ventured out of the home. Please can everyone keep an eye out and if you see her or know anything give us a ring or please bring her to Forest House Vets and we can then contact the owner and re-unite Miss Cinnamon with her pawrents 🐱💞

Hopefully together as a community we can find her 🙏🏻

🚨 Bluetongue (BTV-3) Update – Important for Sheep & Cattle Keepers 🚨

A case of Bluetongue virus (BTV-3) has now been confirmed in Staffordshire – the first confirmed case of the summer.

As the risk of spread increases during midge season, now is the time to review your flock or herd's protection.

✅ What you should do:
• Speak to us about whether Bluetongue vaccination is appropriate for your animals.
• Check the latest movement restrictions before moving, selling or exporting livestock, as rules differ between England, Scotland and Wales.
• Be alert for signs of disease and remember that Bluetongue is a notifiable disease – any suspected cases must be reported immediately, even in vaccinated animals.

Protecting your livestock now can help reduce disease risk and avoid disruption to your business.

🎉 Exciting News! 🎉

We’re delighted to announce that from September, we’ll be welcoming not one, but TWO Student Veterinary Nurses to the team! 🐾

Many of you will already know Lizzie, who is currently one of our friendly receptionists, and we’re also thrilled to welcome back Amelia, who previously worked with us on reception and is returning to begin this exciting new chapter.

Both Lizzie and Amelia will be starting their journey towards becoming qualified Veterinary Nurses, and we couldn’t be prouder to support them along the way. Their passion for animal care, dedication, and enthusiasm make them fantastic additions to our nursing team.

🌿 **Blue-green algae can be deadly to dogs – please stay vigilant this summer.** 🐶💚

Fortunately, blue-green algae poisoning isn't something we see commonly in our area, but it's still important to stay vigilant. During warmer weather, harmful algal blooms can develop quickly and aren't always obvious, so it's worth taking a few simple precautions when you're out walking your dog.

As the weather warms up, blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can develop on lakes, ponds, reservoirs and slow-moving rivers. It isn't always easy to spot and can look like green paint, pea soup or floating scum on the water's surface.

⚠️ Even a small amount of contaminated water can be dangerous. Dogs can be exposed by:
💧 Drinking affected water
🏊 Swimming or paddling
🐾 Licking algae from their fur or paws after a walk

Signs of poisoning can develop rapidly and may include:
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Excessive drooling
• Weakness or collapse
• Difficulty breathing
• Seizures

🚨 If you think your dog has come into contact with blue-green algae, rinse them with clean water (while protecting yourself from contact if possible), prevent them from licking their coat, and contact your vet **immediately**. Prompt treatment can be lifesaving.

You can help protect other dogs by reporting suspected blooms using the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology's **Bloomin' Algae** app, which helps monitor and map blue-green algae across the UK:

We were delighted to receive this lovely update from one of our clients after helping organise the export paperwork for their dogs, Rizzo and Wrigley, on their move from the UK to Hawaii:

🐶 Could we contact you if your dog went missing?

We regularly have dogs brought into the practice after being found wandering. Thankfully, many are quickly reunited with their owners — but only if we can identify them.

A collar and tag can make all the difference. If your dog is found, a clear tag with up-to-date contact details means you can often be contacted straight away.

Please remember:

✅ Dogs are legally required to wear a collar and tag in public, with the owner’s name and address, except for some working dog exemptions.

✅ Dogs must also be microchipped.

✅ Your dog’s microchip must be registered with the correct database, and your contact details must be kept up to date.

A microchip is only helpful if the registered phone number, address and keeper details are correct. If you have moved house, changed phone number, rehomed a dog, or changed ownership details, please check the chip record today.

A few minutes now could save a lot of worry later. 🐾
