Handsome boy Sammy is still looking for his forever home 😢

Sammy has really thrived after being moved into an indoor environment from his previous outdoor set up. We catch him on the cameras doing binkies, flops and having a snooze. He's a really sweet boy who needs a quieter household, with no children or noisy, boisterous pets. When he gets overwhelmed he goes into grooming mode and can cause bald spots and sore feet. His fur has returned while in foster and being on a care plan that really suits him which includes daily meds for pain management, which we think triggered the grooming behaviour, and herbal stress reliever but we hope having a bonded partner would help to alleviate his over grooming behaviour too.

Sammy loves to take a treat from you and explore his environment, playing with toys and enjoying a forage. Could you give a nice calm home where he can settle with a friend? 💜

No Flies on Me!!

We are getting got the time of year when Flystrike is more common 🪰

• Flystrike happens when flies lay eggs on a rabbit which hatch into maggots and eat into the rabbit’s flesh.
• Rabbits are more at risk if they have wounds or illnesses, are kept in dirty conditions, or cannot clean themselves effectively.
• Prevention and early identification are vital via a good cleaning routine and regular health checks.

Flystrike happens fast, is life-threatening and is a medical emergency!

The scorching weather has arrived early this year in Scotland ☀️

Here’s some of our top tips for keeping your bunnies cool and comfy in the heat:

💦Water: Offer a bowl of cool (not cold) water for efficient drinking.
🚫 NO ice cubes: they can upset rabbits delicate tummies.
😎 Shade > sun cream: Provide shaded areas with good airflow, no need for sun lotion!
🧊 Cooling tricks: Use frozen water bottles or cool pads in environments
🥬 Stick to their normal diet: no changes needed!
🏃🏻‍♀️Exercise: Ensure 24/7 access to safe, shady areas so they can move around when it’s cooler in the early morning/evening

Keep your buns safe in the heat!

Meet Ayla and Wayne! 💜

This bonded pair are looking for their new forever home. Ayla is a previous BR bunny and was a firm favourite of the volunteers at the hub! Ayla is an adventurous girl who loves to be in her humans company. She is a greedy girl who will snap up anything straight out of your hand (even if it’s meant for her bonded buddy, Wayne). Although she is adventurous she is a slower bun who likes to take her time wandering about. Ayla uses her litter tray well, even if she's off exploring she'll return to her toilet when needed. Wayne is a loving but timid boy. Given time he will happily come over and say hello on his own terms. He loves a snack and will climb over you for a treat. Like a lot of rabbits he is not a fan of being picked up and prefers you to go down to him. He is a very inquisitive boy and will explore anywhere he gets the chance to. He is a very happy little guy that loves space to binky but will be sure to let you know when he’s not happy with a loud thump or two.

Could you be their forever home? 🧡

- Reduction in stress-related behaviour and illness: Companionship reduces loneliness, excessive grooming and destructive behaviours as rabbits feel safer and more comfortable.

What do you mean I can't have treats everyday!?

A rabbit's diet is 80-90% hay, daily greens, a tiny bit of pellets… and treats only in moderation. A healthy bun is a happy (and very dramatic) bun! 💜

The wonderful wee Wendeline is now settling into a fabulous foster placement 🧡

Many of you will remember her, the little wanderer found abandoned on a rural roadside, vulnerable, a little underweight, and covered in ticks. From that frightening experience to the safety of our hub for treatment and some much‑needed R&R, she has taken every step with confidence. She's a brave bun!

Watching her relax, explore, and trust again has been a joy for all of us, especially our volunteers in the hub and her foster carer.

To everyone who supports us, shares our posts, donates, fosters, or simply cheers us on, thank you. You make rescues like hers possible. We do it 'cause every bunny matters!

Whilst we have been enjoying the return of the sun (and drizzle!) for rabbit rescues like us, warmer months bring real fear. Deadly diseases like Myxomatosis and RHD2 surge in spring and summer, spread by insects, wild rabbits, and even hay. For unvaccinated rabbits, these illnesses are almost always fatal.

At Beloved Rabbits, every rabbit in our care is fully vaccinated, no exceptions. Each rabbit needs two vaccines every year, and while we work hard to keep costs down, one season of vaccinations runs into thousands of pounds. Emergency intakes can push costs up overnight.

Please donate or share our post to help us fund lifesaving vaccinations and protect every rabbit in our care 💜 See the link in comments 🐰
