Running a small business in retail can take 3 - 5years to become truly profitable 📈!

I am lucky that I don't have "bricks & mortar" as a shop can have incredibly high upfront costs.

This is why I opted for a portacabin - if the shops quiet, I don't have the stress of paying rent 💵 or business rates.

The initial set up for my shop was all paid for with my redundancy from my last job. I paid someone to do the groundwork, bought the portacabin, bought freezers, put electric in and bought all the stock. After this I had £0.00 left in my account.

⏭️I don't owe anyone
⏭️ I don't have an overdraught
⏭️As soon as I put an order in , its paid for
⏭️ I rely on money in = buy more stock
⏭️ I am VAT registered now so 20% goes to HMRC
⏭️ My profits are minimal
⏭️ My electricity is my main outgoing
⏭️ I still don't pay myself a weekly wage 🤑

So, if a regular item isn't on the shelf - I am just waiting for money to go back into my shops account!

I have made mistakes buying stock that doesn't sell - harnesses, supplements, gift items. These either go out of date or I sell them for less than I paid for them.

I thought this very honest post would help to make you all understand that in retail- it isn't always easy.

I LOVE ❤️ running my shop, seeing my regulars, having a good chat, giving advice, meeting new customers and being at home for my kids 👬, dogs🐕 and 🐎 horses and this is why I continue to carry on - even when somedays it can be tough and a worry 💪.

Supporting a small , local businesses is so important so pass on to friends and family that my wee shop is here please. 🙏

This post is not for sympathy or to say I will be closing, its just to make others understand that I don't have endless money and every penny counts! 😀

The first picture shows reality - answering the phone, serving customers, answering emails , keeping dogs happy with free treats, unpacking stock, writing lists for the next week of what I need and trying to get 10mins to get a coffee ☕️ 😂.

Nova Dog Chews delivery finally arrived!

So if you have placed an order - its here 🙌.
Ive noticed a change that some of my regulars are now asking for a whole box of treats for their dogs.

So you know they won't run out of their favourite snack!
If you want a price for a whole box of something, please just ask. 🗣

1kg bags of Tripe have been very popular recently. A bit stinky but a great probiotic and chewy treat for your dog.

Ive got bigger pigs 🐖 noses back in, hairy buffalo 🐃 ears and normal sized pigs ears back on the shelves.

The big Camel 🐫 rolls and Buffalo 🐃 Rolls are in too. ( don't worry, If you have ordered some ive put them by!)

Paddock Farm 100% freeze dried treats are very popular and my Mums cat - Poodle, loves these so I ordered her a whole box 📦 🐈

Ostrich Toes and Knuckles are in - a firm favourite 😍 for a few of my regulars 🐕

And of course more 1kg bags of Sausages - with 4 flavours to choose from.

Its Wednesday so that means it was delivery day! 👏

My weekly 50 boxes 📦 from DIBO arrived at the usual time, unfortunately they were out of stock of a few flavours . BUT i have some different ones as replacements for your dogs to try.

Currently in my 2 freezers I have over 20 different flavours of their brand to choose from.

I also got Dougie's in!

I know alot of my regulars come into the shop on a Wednesday evening as my DIBO delivery usually arrives.

As you all know it was a Bank holiday yesterday so delivery will be THURSDAY this week.

I was offered to drive up and collect it but for me its not worth it by the time I pay the diesel and my time. Hope you can all understand 🙏.

A wee reminder that I don't take Bank Holidays off ! 😂

Shop is OPEN Tonight as usual.

DIBO delivery is due Wed morning and any customer orders will be put aside.

With this warm weather the 4 different flavours of Doggy ice creams have been selling well. So stock up!

Natural Instinct has just been delivered, this isn't the biggest seller as its a wee bit more expensive but its a completely balanced raw food with human grade ingredients
