This weekend we were delighted to host the first Cairngorms Environmental Volunteers Festival at the park as part of Volunteers' Week 🩵

Bringing together volunteers and organisations from across the Cairngorms, the day was packed with learning, connection and celebration. From our BioBlitz and volunteer discussions to meeting new people and sharing experiences, it was fantastic to see so many passionate individuals coming together for nature.

A huge thank you to Cairngorms National Park, RSPB and everyone who joined us and helped make the day such a success. We left feeling inspired, with new friendships formed and stronger networks to support environmental volunteering across the Cairngorms 🗻🌲

Our five-year-old Amur tiger has safely arrived at her new home in Canada as part of the international breeding programme for this Critically Endangered species.

While we'll miss seeing Nishka here at Highland Wildlife Park, we're excited for her next chapter 💙🐾

This week has been a scorcher, but the Przewalski’s horses are loving it! ☀️

Have you ever noticed how their coats change with the seasons?

Native to Central Asia, Przewalski’s horses (also known as takhi) are built to handle extreme environments, from icy winters to blazing summers. As the temperatures rise they shed their thick winter coats and transition into a lighter, shorter summer coat to help keep cool 🧊

Tongue... up the nose (???) Tuesday 😕

That doesn't seem right.

It might seem gross but animals like our bison lick their noses primarily to keep them clean and moist. They produce a thick, sticky mucus that traps dust and bacteria to protect their lungs. Lacking hands (or tissues) they use their long, rough tongues to remove this build-up. A protective habit for their respiratory health 🫁
