🌱 Grass seeds can be a problem in the summer months 🐶🐱
These tiny seeds are pointed and arrow shaped, so they can easily become embedded in dogs ears, eyes or paws and work their way under the skin. Outdoor cats can also be affected but we see it more commonly in dogs.
🩺 Signs of your pet picking up a grass seed depend on the location but may include soreness/redness and swelling, the pet licking and being painful around the area, limping or shaking the ears.
🐾 Help reduce the chances of your pet picking up a grass seed by avoiding walks in areas where grass seeds are clearly visible, keep dogs well groomed so you can spot any seeds more easily, check your dog after walks in long grass paying attention to the paws, head & arm pits and removing any seeds from their fur. If they have penetrated the skin or caused any issues such as swelling contact your vet for help.
