And that's a wrap! 🎬

The Deep were honoured to have been selected as the first aquarium and marine conservation charity in the UK to partner with the team at Scottish Sensory Centre and The University of Edinburgh to host 'Deaf Marine Weekend'.

Funded by Eramus+ and launching in line World Ocean Day (8th June), a brand-new BSL glossary was introduced to visitors! This was the result of three years' work with deaf marine biologists, sign linguists and science educators, producing 87 new signs for marine animals and plants. 🪸

On Friday 5th June, we were delighted to welcome local Deaf students to participate in a fun hands-on science workshop before heading into the aquarium for BSL-interpreted ocean talks and activities showcasing the new signs. 🐢

Meet the striking Blue poison arrow frog 💙

These frogs are insectivores, so their diet consists mainly of ants, termites and small spiders. 🕷️

Unlike many frogs, blue poison arrow frogs don’t have webbed toes, so they aren’t good swimmers. They spend most of their time hopping around in their habitat instead of in water.

It's been an amazing first day of Deaf Marine Weekend! 🪸

We were pleased to welcome local schools for a hands-on science workshop led by Dr Audrey from The University of Edinburgh followed by BSL ocean talks and a turtle hospital activity. 🐢

They also enjoyed the opportunity to learn new signs as part of the Scottish Sensory Centre BSL marine species glossary!

It was a pleasure to support the students from Ganton School's Chop & Change scheme to deliver another hugely successful Humber Business Week lunch to the Hull Business Women's Breakfast Club today! 🥘

The Deep is proud to be a longstanding supporter of the Chop & Change scheme, which provides valuable opportunities for young people with additional needs. This experience helps students develop confidence, independence and employability skills through hands-on catering and hospitality experiences. 🍴
