I’m SICK of this mindset that because a dog is small, it’s somehow okay for it to be completely out of control.

I’m sick of having to catch, lead up and return other people’s dogs because apparently recall is optional when you’re 5kg. 🤦‍♀️

I’m sick of the big dogs I walk being charged at, barked at, jumped all over and even attacked by small dogs.

And I’m REALLY sick of the “HE’S FRIENDLY!” brigade shouting from 4 football pitches away while their dog is already halfway up another dog’s arse. 😂

Being small doesn’t make bad behaviour harmless.

Small dogs need training. Small dogs need boundaries. Small dogs need recall.

Not every dog wants to be chased, jumped on or nipped at — and “he just wants to play” doesn’t change that.

I LOVE small dogs. This isn’t anti-small-dog.

But if one of my 30kg dogs behaved the same way, I highly doubt everyone would be laughing it off. 👀

Mud. Fur. Dribble. Wet dog. Questionable swamp water. Probably things I don’t even want to know about. 😂

So a HUGE 10/10 to my valeter because honestly, I wouldn’t go anywhere else! 😍🙌
It currently smells like FRUIT 🍓🍊😂

Unfortunately, this beautiful clean, fresh-smelling van has approximately 24 hours to live… Tomorrow the swamp monsters return. 👹🐕💦

🐾 LET’S TALK ABOUT BREED STIGMA… 🐾

You know the look.

You’re walking a big dog and suddenly people cross the road. Someone sees a certain breed and immediately decides they know exactly what that dog is going to be like.

German Shepherd.
Doberman.
Cane Corso.
Rottweiler.

And plenty of other big breeds get labelled “dangerous”, “aggressive” or “scary” before they’ve even had a chance to say hello.

But here’s the thing…

A BREED IS NOT A PERSONALITY.

Yes, breeds have different traits, instincts and needs, and responsible owners absolutely need to understand those. But breed alone doesn’t tell you who that individual dog is.

Genetics, breeding, early experiences, socialisation, training and environment all matter.

And then there’s the small matter of…

THE DOG BEING AN INDIVIDUAL. 🐶

Working with dogs means I get to see the personality behind the breed.

And some of the dogs people might cross the road to avoid?

The German Shepherds, Dobermans, Cane Corsos and Rottweilers I know are some of my absolute favourites. ❤️

Big.
Daft.
Lanky.
Ridiculously affectionate.
Completely unaware of their own size. 😂

That doesn’t mean ignoring breed characteristics or pretending every dog is the same. It means getting to know the dog in front of you instead of judging them by the label.

Because sometimes that intimidating-looking beast is actually just a giant, daft baby who thinks your lap belongs to them. 😂❤️
