☀️ A few hot weather tips you might not know 🐾
With another hot day expected tomorrow, here are a few less obvious ways to help keep your pets comfortable:
🐶 Wet their paws, belly and chest with cool water – these areas can help them cool down more effectively than simply pouring water over their back.
💧 Add extra water to their meals – an easy way to increase their fluid intake, especially for pets that aren’t big drinkers.
🧊 Freeze treats, wet food or a favourite toy in water for a simple cooling activity that keeps them occupied indoors.
🐾 Remember artificial grass can get extremely hot – sometimes even hotter than paving, so check it before letting dogs out.
🐰 Frozen bottles of water wrapped in a towel can be placed near rabbits and small animals, giving them something cool to lie beside if they choose.
🐦 Put out shallow dishes of fresh water for garden birds – on very hot days, water can be just as valuable to wildlife as food.
🌬️ Fans don’t cool dogs in quite the same way they cool us. Dogs mainly lose heat through panting, so a fan alone isn’t always enough in a very warm room.
And one people often forget – dogs can still overheat in the garden. Lying outside, playing or running around in the sun can be just as much of a risk as going for a walk.
A few small changes can make a big difference on a hot day ☀️🐾
