🦴 A Year of the Hip 🦴

Seeing Nox now and comparing him to a year ago, made me feel really proud and we really have something to celebrate.

It’s a full year since he had a THR and was fitted with a titanium hip joint in his left leg. Which has given him much more than just a physical improvement.

I’ve tried to encapsulate the entire journey, starting from the delayed surgery summer 2025 due to the never healing lost claw (welcome rubber glove sock) and the skin infection they found when admitting him, leaving him shaved while we had antibiotics and daily medicated baths for another month.

I used the delay to train him on a ramp so he could get in and out of the van safely. We prepped him to be as physically strong as possible for surgery with physio, hydrotherapy and chiropractic work. He has a great team
There was only so much we could do with pain management and therapy, the before videos show how skinny he was on his back end, how sloped and tucked he was and ultimately he was moving in the only way he could manage.

His behaviour was also only improving to a certain level. I tried everything to help him with his dog reactivity but could never quite crack it. I finally decided that if he was in pain, maybe that was the missing piece before I could rehab him any further.

October 2025 he finally had the surgery, dropping him off for the second time wasn’t any easier! The surgeon said there was nothing left of his hip, it wasn’t attached at all and he’s not sure how he wasn’t showing more signs of pain. But as we know, most dogs hide pain very well. Plus Nox has a huge amount of adrenaline outside which kills pain signals.

The surgery went well. It was then over to me! The pressure to not f**k this up was quite overwhelming but I’m nothing, if not determined and I prepped everything as much as I possibly could. I turned my house into a dog hospital, had three weeks off work, rearranged work when I did go back so he wasn’t alone too long and had the team helping me plan his physical recovery.

Happy gotcha day Noxy boy 💕

The dog who has upskilled me in every way possible. I could almost pass a veterinary degree at this point I think.

We’re in the midst of a massive health hurdle (a total hip replacement), still with a long stretch of recovery ahead of us but I’m hopeful that 2026 will be pain free and finally get the calm, happy life I want for him.

Remember, you can’t out train pain. If you’re struggling with behavioural issues, always check pain conditions first.

🐺 NOX’S 6th BIRTHDAY 🎂

Fabulous weekend in Filey last weekend to celebrate the wolf turning six!!

It was magical being able to see him so relaxed with another dog inside the lodge… is a great match for Nox. He loves being chased and is neutral and calm inside, which means Nox can also relax. I’m a big believer in energy and how dogs can feel/ respond to it… which is evident when you can get the right mix of dogs!

I’ll never regret taking my dogs on holiday and making memories with them 💞

🎄 M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S 🐾

Wanted to do a little round up of some of my fave photos from this year - not all of them as the 45000 photos of dogs on my phone just wouldn’t go into one post 😂

Forever grateful to my amazing clients for letting me live my dream and for all the support in the first year of my own business! I truly love working with you all and seeing the changes in your dogs with the hard work you put in 🙌🏽

Merry Christmas everyone and let’s hope 2025 is just as brilliant ⭐️

🐺 Two Years of the Wolf 🐺

November 6th (I’ve been forgetting to post for ten days… thanks ADHD) marked two years of loving the biggest, dopiest, handsomest, tree (squirrel) enthusiast, who’s given me a hard ride but I’d do it all over again for him.

The past year has had a lot of changes for Nox… a hip dysplasia diagnosis in January, lead to ongoing appointments with vets, physios and chiropractors.

Some previous bad advice and misdiagnosis of his behaviour, that he was just ‘over excited’, lead to an increase in his reactivity - and of course he is the anomaly who gets more reactive when his pain condition is treated!

Despite being a trainer myself, I knew I was too close to the situation and my own emotions were getting in the way. I also felt like I had tried so much of what usually works… and couldn’t ‘fix’ him. So I made it my mission to find someone to help guide us and I wouldn’t let my own ego interfere with my boy having the best life he could.

We saw several different trainers, one of which was down right dangerous in their advice to drop his lead and run away when a dog was close by 🤯

But I didn’t give up and kept looking for a trainer who could make a real difference. We saw a couple who gave some useful tips but nothing that really clicked to make a big difference.

Now, after a lot of work and finally finding the right person, we’re starting to make some real progress. Nox is in the best condition both physically and behaviourally, that he’s ever been and I’m so proud that I didn’t stop. I didn’t just accept what I’d been told. I didn’t accept advice which felt wrong.

So to anyone struggling, don’t give up… don’t accept anything that doesn’t feel right and if you’re in the dog world, I know how much harder it is to struggle with your own dog. Keep going!

To the boy who keeps pushing me to learn… thank you Nox!

🦊 The Fox turns Four 🎂

Little bit late to post this… Belle’s birthday being on Halloween is so fitting for the sassy little fox!

She celebrated with a candle in her raw food, trick or treating with her pals on a College walk, then away for a spa weekend in York.

If anyone says I use my dog’s birthday as an excuse to do things… I’ll totally deny it 🙃

Do you celebrate your dog’s birthday?
