We have had a young, female, cream-coloured ferret handed in to us as a stray. She was found in Spencer Road, Newton Abbot. She is friendly and seems in good health. If you think this is your ferret, please contact the practice on 01626 331977.

We have a black, entire male cat but sadly not microchipped! He was found on Hickmore Drive, Newton Abbot. He’s a very friendly and we estimate an age of 6-8 years.

Well that’s one way to keep cool! To beat the heat, this clever owner popped a cool box in the fridge before bringing these gorgeous pups in for their first vaccinations. This gorgeous bundle of fluff is Elsa and she is here to announce that it is officially grass seed season!

Grass seeds are incredibly frustrating as they can easily get in ears, eyes or stuck in paws. This causes a lot of discomfort for your pet and, in Elsa's case, some extremely sore ears!

Elsa's owners noticed she was shaking her head and very obviously distressed. Noting that she had been lying on grass that had been recently cut, her owners were (rightly) very suspicious that a grass seed may have wormed its way into her ear.

Our fabulous duty vet Emma managed to just about see the grass seed in Elsa's ear but, unfortunately, Elsa was just too sore to let her get it out.

After a bit of sedation, Elsa was much more relaxed and Emma managed to remove the pesky seed.

This little sweetheart enjoyed some cuddles with our nurse, Hilary. Waking up nicely and soon ready to go home.

If your pet is shaking their head, has a new swelling on their paw or even a sore eye, this could well be a sneaky grass seed. If you are ever concerned, please call us and we will be happy to advise.

Please join us (again!) in congratulating Alisha, who has just passed her final nursing exams and is officially a qualified veterinary nurse.

Student Veterinary Nurses have two routes they can take to qualify. One is the university route, in which you study at uni and then are sent on placements to see practice. The other is the college route, in which you go to college one day a week and then work in practice for the rest.

The majority of our students take the college route. They study for 3 years, completing exams and assignments as they go. They also have a thorough nursing log to complete along the way, to demonstrate their competence. All whilst working (often full time). They are supported by a clinical coach (in our practice this is one of our registered nurses).

At the very end of all of this, they then have a professional discussion to pass and then they can (finally!) take their OSCE's (the final practical exam).

Alisha has absolutely smashed this last exam and we are very proud of her and her clinical coach Alex, who has supported her all the way.

She will soon be added to the register of veterinary nurses in the UK and will be able to use the post-nominals RVN.

Well done Alisha, we knew you could do it and cannot wait to see you in your greens!

Puppies! We were lucky enough to see this gorgeous litter of Cocker Spaniel puppies for their first vaccinations and (most importantly) cuddles with Emma the vet and some of our nurses. Who could possibly resist a puppy cuddle? Not us!
