A gentle reminder to get your horse's teeth checked regularly! 🦷
Did you know that horses' teeth continue to erupt throughout much of their lives? Because they spend hours grinding forage every day, uneven wear can occur, leading to sharp edges that can rub on the cheeks and tongue, causing discomfort and sometimes painful ulcers.
Routine dental examinations are an important part of maintaining your horse's health, comfort, and performance. Our vets can identify and treat common dental issues such as sharp enamel points, hooks, retained caps, wolf teeth problems, and uneven wear patterns before they become more serious.
Signs your horse may need a dental check include:
🐴 Difficulty accepting the bit
🐴Resistance when ridden or reluctance to work in an outline
🐴Head shaking
🐴Dropping feed while eating (quidding)
🐴Taking longer to chew
🐴Weight loss or poor condition
🐴Bad breath
🐴Excessive salivation
Even if your horse isn't showing any obvious signs, regular dental care is an important part of their routine healthcare and can help keep them happy, comfortable, and performing at their best.
If your horse is due a dental check, get in touch with the practice to book an appointment on 📞01548 853322

🐴 Equine Flu 🐴
Cases of equine flu have been increasing across the country since April.
Fully vaccinated horses should have good protection from the virus. If your horse does encounter flu, clinical signs will typically be much less severe and they will hopefully recover quicker. Vaccinated horses can still spread the virus but generally the virus will shed at a lower level and for a shorter period of time.
If you need to book your horse in for their vaccinations or you suspect your horse may have flu please contact our equine team on 📞01548 853322
