๐ŸŽ‰ 98 years young and still going strong!

Our very special Eddie recently celebrated his 98th birthday, and what a privilege it is to have him as part of our Ground Force family!
Our longest-serving veteran in our gardening group, Eddie has faithfully joined us every Thursday, missing only a couple of sessions along the way. Come rain or shine, he's there, always willing to lend a hand, share a smile and bring his own special touch of gentlemanly charm to our happy band of reprobates!
Eddie is so much more than a regular volunteer. He's a truly lovely man who has quietly, and without fuss, worked his way into all our hearts. His dedication, kindness and wonderful spirit remind us what volunteering is really all about - friendship, laughter, belonging and giving what you can, whatever your age. ๐Ÿ’š
Happy 98th birthday, Eddie! You are an inspiration to us all, and we wouldn't be the same without you.
Eddie proves - you're never too old to make a difference. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒณ

๐Ÿ“ฃ Eglinton Country Park is set to host a FREE All-Ability Equipment taster session ๐Ÿšฒ

Following on from the country park's recent outdoor accessibility event, this taster session gives the public an opportunity to discover what equipment is available and how to organise borrowing equipment at Eglinton Country Park.

โžก๏ธ Inviting residents and visitors alike to saddle up in our local country park, the exciting event is being hosted on the green beside the Racquet Hall on Friday 16 October.

๐Ÿ“ The upcoming drop-in session will take place between 10.30am and 2.30pm with a focus on inclusive outdoor activity, accessible wheelers, bike taster sessions, and advice on hiring equipment.

Everyone is welcome, carers, volunteers, families, community groups, and particularly disability groups. Attendees can drop-in or pre-book a slot to ensure an opportunity to try out the equipment.

By attending the event hosted by North Ayrshireโ€™s Countryside Rangers and Eglinton Park staff, this is your chance to meet the team and find out how you can access our park in new and exciting ways.

Use of Eglinton Country Park's selection of scooters and wheelers is FREE, available for anyone who has limited mobility and would like to explore and enjoy our local country park.

Why not explore our park and hire some of our accessibility cycling equipment?

The equipment can be hired for up to 2 hours for use within Eglinton Country Park. Collection times are available at either 10am or 1.30pm. All equipment must be returned by 4pm.

The Accessibility Equipment must be booked in advance, call Eglinton Country Park on 01294 551776 or email [email protected] if you would like to hire the equipment upon your next visit.

Sunday 4th October was Junior Ranger day, and our Juniors learnt all about wetland birds on a Wetland Bird Survey (or WeBS). In true Autumnal form, we welcomed the teal back to their old, familiar haunts for the darker half of the year. We also discovered a rather impressive array of birch polypores on a dying birch tree... or was it a bao bun tree? ๐Ÿค” It was also lovely to see one of my old colleagues and mentors who set up the North Ayrshire Junior Rangers in 2015, and still pops by to Volunteer now and then!
If you want to know more about WeBS and how to do it, please check out the BTO British Trust for Ornithology for more info.
