My first ever grooming competition… and we came 2nd in Beginners! 🥈✂️ I’m a Groomer… Get Me Out of Hair!

This was only my 4th time grooming Aki and my 4th attempt at the trim he’s in, so being able to see the progression from his first few grooms to this one is something I’m really happy with!

I was SO nervous, had the shakes and found it so tricky to groom not in my usual set up 😮‍💨🤣

But I received some really lovely feedback from the judges, and where I can improve which I’m excited to take on board.

Aki was an absolute superstar throughout and such a lovely boy to work with. He made the whole experience so much easier and I couldn’t have asked for a better dog to take with me 🥹

I had such a lovely time competing and definitely will be back for more in the future!

Thank you SO much to Egle Siderfin for supporting me, cheering me on and trusting me with Aki. So grateful to working alongside eachother 💗

I should’ve been banned from grooming… 🫣😮‍💨

These grooms were from 3 years ago, when I finished my college course and got my first grooming job. Looking back is so painful but it reminds me how far I’ve come!

I’m sure in another few years I’ll be looking at my current work thinking it’s awful, as I love to do! 😅

But that’s the point! Every improvement has come from putting the hours in. Long days grooming, evenings studying, weekends at seminars, webinars on repeat, and constantly trying to refine my skills. It’s taken a lot of time and effort, and I dread to think how much money, but I wouldn’t change any of it! 💗

Although I definitely wish I discovered a good prep routine and a comb a lot sooner 🫣🤣

🐾 HOW MUCH SHOULD A DOG GROOMER REALLY BE CHARGING YOU? 🐾

I often see people questioning the price of a dog groom and saying, “That’s expensive for a haircut.”

But dog grooming isn’t just a haircut. And it certainly isn’t just about the time the scissors are in your hand.

A professional groomer has usually invested thousands of pounds into setting up their business — grooming tables, dryers, clippers, blades, scissors, bathing equipment, insurance, training and ongoing education.

Then there’s the rent, electricity, water, laundry, cleaning products, shampoos, conditioner, equipment maintenance, waste disposal, business rates, booking systems, card fees… the list goes on.

And most importantly, there is time and SKILL.

A groomer isn't simply making a dog look pretty. They are handling that dog safely, recognising changes in the skin, coat, ears, nails and general condition, working with nervous or difficult dogs, preventing injury and making decisions based on the individual dog's welfare.

This is a skilled trade.

💷 A groomer charging around £30–£40 per hour isn't necessarily earning £30–£40 an hour in their pocket.

That hourly rate has to cover everything above — before the groomer actually pays themselves.

And here's something that really makes me think…

20 years ago, my prices were around:

🐶 Cockerpoo — £40
🐶 Small dog — £35

Twenty years later, those prices have obviously had to increase but have they increased as much as they should have.... I don't feel they have.

Just think about how much rent, electricity, water, insurance, products and equipment have increased over that same period.

Yet there still seems to be an expectation that dog grooming should somehow remain cheap.

Would you expect a plumber, electrician, mechanic or hairdresser to charge the same price today as they did 20 years ago?

Of course not.

So please remember when you book your dog's groom:

❤️ You're not just paying for a haircut.
❤️ You're paying for someone's time.
❤️ You're paying for their years of experience and training.
❤️ You're paying for the equipment and products they have invested in.
❤️ You're paying for a professional, safe environment.
❤️ And ultimately, you're paying for someone to care for your dog's health, comfort and welfare.

Dog grooming is a profession, a skilled trade and a responsibility — not a luxury haircut. 🐾✂️

So perhaps the question shouldn't be “Why does a groom cost that much?”

Maybe it should be:

“How much does it actually cost a professional groomer to provide that service?”

A little photo dump 💗

Life has been a bit WILD this year but I’m trying to get back on my photo taking A-game 😅🤭

I have some rare availability for September, so if you’ve noticed a lot more hair round the house or you’re struggling to see your dog’s eyes, it’s probably time to get them booked in for a pamper!

When was the last time you checked your dog’s teeth?

Dental care is so often overlooked until there’s already a problem, but regular maintenance can make such a difference to your dog’s oral health. Most dogs will develop some form of dental disease as they get older, with plaque quickly building up along the gum line, hardening into tartar and contributing to sore, inflamed gums.

That’s why I offer Emmi-Pet ultrasonic teeth cleaning as an add-on to your grooming appointment! I’ve been using Emmi-Pet for over 3 years now and, safe to say, I LOVE it! 🤭

It’s a gentle, non-invasive way to help manage plaque and support healthier teeth and gums as part of your dog’s regular grooming routine. Definitely one to add on to your dog’s groom! 💗

For all my Harborough clients, worth a read and keep an eye out! So scary happening so close to home, thinking of all the poorly dogs ❤️‍🩹

Pet owners in Market Harborough are being urged to stay alert after a number of dogs and a cat became seriously ill in the same part of the town. Residents say at least 11 dogs and one cat have suffered sudden sickness, diarrhea and bleeding, with several of the reported cases linked to the Western
