🐾☀️ Heatstroke in dogs: “Wet then Vet”

If you suspect your dog is suffering from heatstroke, act quickly:

💧 Cool first, then get to the vet
Immediately wet your dog with cool (not freezing) water. Any water cooler than their body temperature will help if that’s all you have available.

💦 Focus on evaporation cooling
Wetting helps the body cool down naturally. Keep it brief — don’t delay getting veterinary help.

📞 Call your vet on the way
Let them know what’s happening and your estimated arrival time so they can prepare.

⚠️ Avoid using wet towels, as they can trap heat. Evaporative cooling products or vests are suitable if available.

🥤 If no water is available and only soft drinks are present, check they do NOT contain xylitol and avoid pouring them over the head.

🚨 Then get to the vet immediately — time is critical.

☀️🐾 Before walking your dog, always check the pavement temperature!

Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds…
If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for their paws.

Hot pavements can quickly cause painful burns and injuries, even on warm rather than extreme days. Try to walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler.

Keep your pets safe and comfortable this summer 💛
