If you find a hedgehog nest, please be very careful. Nests can be hidden in leaf piles, long grass, bags, or under sheds and decking. Always check before mowing, trimming, digging, building, or clearing garden areas.

⚠️ Disturbing a nest may cause mum to abandon her babies.

If you accidentally uncover a nest:
✅ Cover it up immediately.
❌ Don’t touch the hoglets with bare hands.
⏳ Watch from a distance to see if mum returns or moves them.

If mum doesn’t return, or the babies are wandering, squeaking, or left alone for a long time, contact a local wildlife rescue for advice.

💚 Never try to hand-rear baby hedgehogs yourself—they need specialist care.

Babies stay with their mum for up to 8 weeks, so if you have a nest in your garden, give them space and enjoy watching nature thrive.

For the last couple of months Tesco in Kettering have donated all the money from their community bookshelf to me 🦔
Wow 😮 over £500 raised - this will make a massive difference in the rescue as vets bills can very quickly mount up 🦔
Every few weeks the charity changes to another equally deserving one so please keep taking your books down to the shelf and pop them on (maybe tidy it up whilst you’re there 🤪)

UPDATE ☹️ sadly all 6 babies have died one after another despite my best efforts ☹️ They were just too small to be without their mum 🦔

A very sad start to my Wednesday as this little gang of six hoglets had their nest disturbed by an elderly dog on an allotment ☹️Luckily the dogs owner realised they needed help after mum abandoned the nest and didn’t return 🙁 They are now in the rescue 🦔 They are very tiny 😬 all weighing less than 20g - it’s going to be a very long journey for them 😬 The statistics are very low for babies of this size to survive in rescue but I will be doing my absolute best 💙

If you do just one thing during this warm weather ☀️ let it be leaving shallow bowls of clean water around the perimeter of your garden 💦🦔 Almost every hedgehog that comes into the rescue is dehydrated 😞🦔

Little Bella arrived in the rescue a couple of days ago 🦔 she is just 130g but doing very well already 🩷

Henry was feeling the heat today and was splooting when I popped into the rescue to top up the bowls 🥵 Hedgehogs “sploot” when they get hot - spreading themselves out on the cool surface in a bid to cool down 🦔 Look at those fabulous teeth 🦔

Henry was spotted on his finders driveway late at night struggling to walk 🦔 Luckily they realised immediately he needed help so they took him to Northlands Vets in Kettering where sadly they discovered Henry had a badly fractured back leg 🙁
The decision was made to amputate the offending leg and now Henry is in the rescue for some rehabilitation 🦔
I just have to hope he can cope well without a back leg and is soon on his way back to his territory 🪴
Henry makes 9 hedgehogs in the rescue right now 🦔
I am totally self funded and am now running low on kitten biscuits, floor wipes, marigold gloves and wet kitten food 🙁

Tiny arrived in the rescue yesterday 🦔 She was spotted over a week ago in a garden but the finder was too scared to touch her to be able to contain her despite all my suggestions of how to do so 🙁 My fabulous volunteer Lynne even went into the garden late one evening to retrieve her from under a box but unfortunately she was gone 🙁
Luckily yesterday a neighbour spotted Tiny in her garden so popped her in a box and she is now in the rescue 🦔
Sadly Tiny is very poorly 🙁 and at just 428g has obviously been struggling for a while but at least for now she is safe & warm with food and water 💕
