Good Afternoon Happy Thursday 🐾 Sometimes, the best part of a walk is simply stopping to sniff. 🐶❤️
We often think of a dog walk as being about exercise — how far we’ve walked, how many steps we’ve done, or how quickly we’ve got around the route.
But for our dogs, a walk is so much more than that.
It’s their opportunity to slow down, explore and experience the world through their nose. 👃🌿
Every little sniff is telling them something. Who has been there? What has happened? Which dogs have passed by? What has changed since they were last here?
Their noses are their way of understanding the world, and when we allow them the time to sniff, we’re allowing them to simply be a dog. 🐾
And you can see how much they enjoy it.
That little nose working away… the excitement when they find an interesting scent… the way they wander along, completely absorbed in their own little world. 🥹❤️
Sniffing isn’t “wasting time” on a walk.
It provides mental stimulation, enrichment and enjoyment, and it can help our dogs feel calmer and more content. Sometimes a slow, sniffy walk can be just as rewarding — if not more so — than a long walk where they are constantly encouraged to keep moving.
So, the next time your dog stops to sniff for what feels like the hundredth time, take a breath and let them.
Let them explore.
Let them investigate.
Let them follow their nose.
Because to us, it might just be a patch of grass…
…but to them, it’s a whole world of information, excitement and adventure. 🌎🐶💕
