Happy Cat Month: The Cat Check-In

September is Happy Cat Month, so today we're giving our feline friends some extra attention. 🐱💚

How well do you know your cat's “normal”?

Take a couple of minutes to check:

👀 Eyes
👂 Ears
🦷 Teeth and gums
🐾 Claws and paws
✨ Coat and skin
🍽️ Appetite
💧 Drinking
🚽 Toilet habits
😺 Behaviour

Cats are experts at hiding when something is wrong, so knowing what's normal for your cat can make it easier to spot changes.

And if something doesn't seem right, don't be afraid to ask us.

💚 Sometimes the little things are worth checking.

🍂 Autumn Hazard Alert: Conkers & Acorns

Autumn walks are coming… and so are the conkers and acorns! 🍂🐕

They might look like harmless treasures to us, but they can be dangerous if eaten by dogs.

They can cause:
⚠️ Stomach upset
⚠️ Vomiting and diarrhoea
⚠️ Choking
⚠️ Intestinal blockages
⚠️ Toxicity

Keep an eye on what your dog is picking up on autumn walks, particularly if you have a curious scavenger!

If you think your dog has eaten a conker or acorn, contact your vet promptly for advice.

🍁 Autumn is for sniffing, not snacking!

🍄 Sunday Sniffing: Beware of Wild Mushrooms

Autumn means damp grass, fallen leaves… and mushrooms! 🍄

While some fungi are harmless, others can be toxic to pets — and it isn't always possible to tell which is which just by looking.

Dogs especially love investigating interesting smells on walks, so keep an eye on curious noses.

If you think your pet has eaten a mushroom or unknown fungus:

🚨 Don't wait for symptoms to appear.
📞 Contact your vet promptly.
📸 If safe to do so, take a photo or bring a sample for identification.

Other autumn hazards to watch for include conkers, acorns, berries and poisonous plants.

🍄 Look, sniff… but don't eat!

🍂 Autumn Is Coming!

The evenings are getting darker, the mornings are getting cooler and those summer walks are starting to feel very different!

Here's your autumn pet checklist:

🐕 Check your dog's collar and ID
📱 Make sure microchip details are up to date
💡 Think about visibility for darker walks
🐾 Check paws after muddy walks
🪲 Keep parasite prevention up to date
🍂 Watch out for conkers, acorns and mushrooms
🏠 Start thinking about keeping older or short-coated pets warm

And don't forget the cats!

As the seasons change, keep an eye on appetite, weight, coat condition and behaviour. Small changes can sometimes be an early sign that something isn't quite right.

🍁 New season = new pet-care checklist!
