Galedin Veterinary- Livestock Services Helping the Scottish Border’s and Northumberland farms achieve maximum productivity. Our journey to become Galedin Vets began over 100 years ago.

In 1817, Robert Glaister was invited and paid 50 guineas by the Border Union Agricultural society to move his practice from Wooler in Northumberland, to Kelso. Whether it's your small household pet, your horse or your livestock that need our attention, our team of over 30 vets have broad collective experiences to ensure that your animal gets incomparable care. But how do you pronounce 'Galedin'? Well, that depends on who you ask, but we say it "Gah-Ledd-Inn".

The Bluetongue situation in the UK is changing rapidly so we would advise you to get the
most up to date information from the government websites at the QR codes below (or
click the links)
Bluetongue is spread by midges not animal to animal. As vaccines are being ordered
and dispensed we want to remember the risk of needle transmission of bluetongue
virus. An animal can be infected by midges before it shows clinical signs and so any
needle we use in one animal could spread the virus to the next.
Our recommendation is one needle per animal however we recognise the logistical
challenge of this. Needles should be changed as often as possible.
This applies not only to bluetongue vaccination but any other vaccine, antibiotic or
medicine given by injection.

🐏🐄 BLUETONGUE UPDATE 🐄🐏

As many will be aware the first confirmed case of Bluetongue virus (BTV-3) in Scotland has been reported in Dumfries and Galloway.

With midge activity continuing and the risk of further transmission, we are encouraging all farmers to remain vigilant and monitor their livestock closely.

Signs of bluetongue to look out for include:
• Fever
• Swelling of the face, lips or tongue
• Drooling and mouth ulcers
• Lameness
• Nasal discharge
• Reduced milk yield
• Lethargy or weakness

If you notice signs that could be consistent with bluetongue, contact the practice immediately. Early reporting and testing are important in helping to monitor and control the spread of the disease.

Vaccination 💉

Vaccination remains an important tool in reducing the risk and severity of disease. Vaccine supply is limited at present so if this is something you are considering, please speak to a member of the farm team.

We can also advise you on the latest movement restrictions, vaccination requirements and biosecurity measures relevant to your farm.
