I started Paws On The Move over 12 years ago to provide dog walking and pet visiting services to the Moray region in North East Scotland on an occasional or regular basis, including visits to livestock as well as companion animals. Having owned dogs with behavioural issues and through spending time in resolving their problems, I gained an interest in behaviour and training and am now pleased to be able to offer help to owners who find themselves in similar situations. I understand the challenges to be faced and sacrifices which have to be made when deciding to accept a furry friend into your household and when looking after them can turn into a chore.

1 to 1 puppy training in your own home can be tailor made to your specific requirements. First time dog owners may need help at this exciting time whether it be assistance in getting ready for the pup to come home, puppy proofing the house or feeding requirements. Puppy class for puppies 12 weeks + held at King Memorial Hall, Grange covering
issues such as how to deal with teething, chewing, house training, basic obedience and more. I offer guidance and assistance on a range of behavioural issues. Whether you need to go out but are unable to take your beloved pets with you or perhaps work during the day and are unable to walk them, I can provide a walk for your canine companions or pop in and see them and check they are safe and well, have some playtime and feed them if you wish, leaving you free to enjoy your day out with the knowledge that your friends are having some fun as well. All dogs will be walked safely on the lead unless specified by you and agreed in writing with you beforehand. If I can help you in any way, please contact me and I will be delighted to hear from you.

WHAT IS DOG TRAINING AND WHY DO IT?

Is it worth taking our dogs to training classes or having 1 to 1 sessions?

The old saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is actually a myth and dogs can learn at any age up until the time that they start to lose mental cognition.

Our world can be very confusing and bewildering for our dogs and it is important that we give them the skills to enable them to live harmoniously with us.

Teaching our dogs specific actions and behaviours and how to react on a given cue will help create a relaxed and calm living environment for both them and us as well as creating trust and enhancing the canine and human bond.

Any training starts with very basic obedience which can progress to more complex exercises and through to dog sports and scent work.

All training and behaviour guidance which I give is positive reward based reinforcement using what the dog considers high value rewards.

If a dog finds a particular action rewarding to him, then that action is likely to be repeated.

Training needs to be continued at home away from classes as dogs learn by repetition.

If you are interested in any training either class or 1 to 1 please contact me.

It's been a little while since I last posted, where does the time go?

I've been busy with animal care and walking as well as training so here's a few photos of all the furry friends I've been out with.

REMEMBERING ARCHIE

When I posted my pictures last week there was a big labrador sized omission.

Recently Archie's family had to make the heartbreaking decision to put Archie to sleep.

I had walked Arch for nearly 11 years and was always welcomed with a big booming bark which would echo through the house. He loved a swim even in the depths of winter, was friendly with everyone we met and had great fun with all the dogs I took him out with.

Apparently he was a bit mischievous when a pup and on one occasion had plastic tupperware removed from his stomach!

It was an absolute pleasure knowing Archie and I am sure all our thoughts are with his family.
