Rocco šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Rocco presented to .vets with a recent history of a right hindlimb lameness. Following an by Sarah Halligan instability was found in the stifle (knee) indicating a failure of the ligament.
Sarah then spoke to our in house Don Sheahan who is the head of Keele .

Following the discussion Rocco was admitted for examination to confirm the and plan the necessary surgery šŸ©»šŸ‘©ā€āš•ļø

There are a number of different techniques available to manage a cruciate rupture. Don’s preferred technique is a procedure known as a tibial plateau levelling osteotomy (TPLO). This technique stabilises the stifle by changing the biomechanics so that a cruciate ligament is no longer needed šŸ‘Œ

Rocco had his procedure last week and is making excellent progress ā¤ļø

Why Trusted Veterinary Relationships Matter in Referrals

As veterinary professionals, we know that a isn’t just a clinical transaction—it’s a moment of . When we refer a , we’re entrusting another practitioner not only with an animal’s care, but with our relationship with that client.

This is why strong, trusted connections between referring vets and are so important. It provides the foundation for confident, well-informed decisions, clear communication, and a seamless patient journey. When there’s mutual professional respect and shared understanding, the result is better and better outcomes for our patients šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Clients pick up on this trust, too. When we can say, ā€œI’ve worked with this specialist and I know your pet will be in excellent hands,ā€ it makes a world of difference to owners navigating what’s often a very stressful time šŸ‘Øā€āš•ļøšŸ„

On the clinical side, trusted referral relationships enable open conversations about complex cases, smoother handovers, and more collaborative post-treatment plans. They also create opportunities for ongoing professional development—learning from each other’s insights, specialisms, and experiences. Referrals aren’t just about access to advanced treatment—they’re about , communication, and shared commitment to animal welfare. Investing in strong professional relationships within the veterinary community isn’t just good practice; it’s essential to the kind of care we all want to deliver šŸ™Œ

We want to build those bridges—for our patients, our clients, and ourselves. If you’re in need of a referral centre we are conveniently located off the M6 in Staffordshire. Send us a message to find out more, or visit https://kvr.vet
