Kings Visit - Jedburgh 2 July 2026
Jedburgh will host a VIP visit on Thursday 2 July 2026.
The visit is a special occasion for the town as it welcomes His Majesty King Charles III for the first time. His Majestyβs visit will coincide with the Jethart Callantβs Festival.
Road closures will be in place to facilitate the visit, which will impact on businesses, residents and visitors.The town is expected to be busy throughout the day.
Please find below information about the visit including road closures, parking restrictions and changes to waste collections.
Road Closures
The following roads in Jedburgh will be closed to vehicular traffic on Thursday 2 July 2026:
High Street, from Market Place to Smithβs Wynd will be closed from 8am to 5pm.
Abbey Bridge End, Abbey Place, Market Place, Castlegate, Exchange Street, Canongate β all closed from 9am to 5pm
Alternatives routes:
Castlegate Closure β via B6358, A698 and A68
Exchange Street Closure β via C38, A698 and A68
Access to Coop supermarket will be maintained via Queen St and Smiths Wynd. High Street businesses will be accessible on foot.
Parking
Parking will be prohibited on the following roads from 6pm on Wednesday 1 July to 5pm Thursday 2 July:
Abbey Bridge End, Abbey Place, Market Place, High Street, Castlegate, Exchange Street, Canongate, Deans Close, A68 (from Oxnam Road to Bongate) and Oxnam Road (from A68 to Wildcat Gate).
Car Park closures
The following car parks will be closed between 1am and 5pm on Thursday 2 July:
Murrays Green
The Glebe
Canongate
Limited disabled parking will be available in the Canongate car park with access from 10.30am.
If you have an appointment on Thursday 2 July at Jedburgh Medical Practice, please be mindful of the road closures and car parking. Access to the practice will be available via Queen Street and on foot.
Bus Service
The bus service will operate as normal. A free park and ride shuttle bus, operated by Peter Hoggs of Jedburgh will also run from Jedburgh Woollen Mill to the town , every 15 minutes from 10am to 3pm on Thursday 2 July.
Waste Collections
The following streets in and around Jedburgh will not receive their scheduled waste collection on Thursday, 2 July.
This collection has been rescheduled and will now take place on Sunday, 5 July. Please ensure your bin is presented for collection by 7am on this date.
Please do not present your bin on Thursday, 2 July.
